Until the day he died, my grandfather thought this was the most important win in LSU history. More than Halloween night, more than the '58 Sugar, more than either national title game.

That night secured our first SEC title in a decade, an Orange Bowl berth and a win against OM for first time in 8-9 years. But to him, it was the night we beat Archie.

I know how bad the Saints were. Archie's play did nothing to elevate them.

I realize you just want to hate without any facts, but Archie was All-Pro one year for an 8-8 team. That speaks volumes of how good he was.

LSU never played the Vols when Peyton was there.

Nothing personal but there is a small but powerful group here that don't like LSU, especially their fans.

Lost to Archie in 68 and unfortunately 69; we beat him in 70.

I would have thought other LSU fans might be stealing them.

I hate the dumb idea that N.O. and especially uptown is somehow not pro-LSU. It's such a bullshite statement.

no...i think you did. what does people taking your flags have to do with why you dislike the Mannings?

i don't base my opinion of people on whether they like or dislike LSU. that's just stupid

Its a little bigger concept than flags, I'll try to explain using small words.
There is a culture here in Uptown NO that loosely revolves around Tulane, Loyola and Newman HS. That culture doesnt care for LSU, they view LSU as a poor mans school, I've actually heard LSU compared to a community college. Who they really dislike are LSU fans (non grads)that they believe blindly support LSU (because they are stupid). The Mannings identify themselves with that group. As an LSU grad that smarmy arse attitude pisses me off so please forgive me if I dont join in on the Manning love, but you go ahead.

Haven't read the whole thread so this may be mentioned but in '69 Archie singled handily cost us the National Championship - we best Ole Miss and it would have been LSU - Texas in the Cotton Bowl and our defense would have prevailed !

Wouldn't Odell Beckham Junior's presence at LSU sorta contradict this ?

No shite. He must be sampling the people who live in Audobon place since they are probably the most uppity pricks in the city. Other than that, you will find a good mix of LSU fans all over uptown, garden district, etc.

Why would you like LSU because you were born in New Orleans? Both Archie and his wife are Ole Miss graduates. In fact Archie's wife is a former Ole Miss homecoming queen. I was born in New Orleans. Does that make me a Tulane fan? Archie was a great player who probably cost us a NC when he beat LSU in Jackson. I was a sophomore at LSU at the time, and I went to that game in Jackson. Losing that game still pisses me off, but what a great rivalry that those two schools had back then.

I remember the State Championship game in high school baseball, Newman vs Sacred Heart of Ville Platte in VP. Peyton playing shortstop, I think the score was tied in the bottom of the 9th, grounder to short, through the legs of Manning, run scores, Sacred Heart wins !!
