Did any of the Manning's take official visits to LSU?

Peyton took at least one. I was at the game when he and Booty were there for a visit. Word on the street then was that there was no way in hell we were getting him, and he was smart to not come here, what with the shambles Hallman was making out of our football program. And word on the street at the time was that Booty was using us as a negotiating lever against the Marlins, and he had no intentions of coming here right out of hs. It apparently worked, because he got the biggest signing bonus(at the time,) in mlb history.

Mannings are a great story but as an LSU fan, its clear the family isn't fond of our University.

Yep how did you like when is grandson said he was an LSU fan and Archie corrected him and said, no you are just kidding you are pulling for Ole Miss.

Archie got beat up on the field by LSU and verbally shite on by our fans.

Why anyone would expect his boys to come to LSU is a mystery.

NEVER was going to happen.

Anyway, if any base should be pissed, its Old Miss.

Archie sucked arse with the Saints so I don't even know why Saints fans put him on such a high pedestal?

Ok, if you didn't live during that period you can't understand THE SAINTS TRULY DID SUCK. Matter of fact Archie was the only thing that was positive about the Saints. Also you have to give him props for as bad as the SAINTS were, and you don't need to take my word for it just look at their record, he never asked to get out. To me that says a lot about character, he truly wanted to try and make the Saints a winner.

Now that being said, Archie has never been an LSU fan.

how is that different than anyone else?
besides, Mike Anderson could have killed him in that game that Manning played with a cast on. Think we won 61-17 or something, irrelevant. On a sack, might have been a safety, again irrelevant, Mike had him in his sights and was zeroing in for the kill, and he just kind of gently laid him down, instead of crushing him. It apparently was so obvious that Archies' mom wrote a letter to Mike thanking him for not creaming him. That letter used to be in his restaurant.

Only thing I wish is that Peyton would have gone to either Ole Miss or LSU. Tennessee..ugh.

Tennessee was probably the best thing for him. Sad to say, but I think his talents would have been wasted at LSU or Ole Miss.

yeah but in the end he never won a Heisman or title at Tenn. The boys had ties to LA and Mississippi, to hell with the Vols.

I thought that name looked familar. This is the guy with no math skills.

From his own thread yesterday:

Watching sec storied with Archie. I assume that's what you're referring to. Not sure if the Johnny football comparison has been made to Archie before but I see it.

I know how bad the Saints were. Archie's play did nothing to elevate them.

he had gone through it before he came to LSU, the Marlins wanted it back, or at least pro rata, but he didn't have a pot to piss in, so they didn't go after it, really wasn't that astronomical when you break it down, 1.5mil I think, 20% to the agent, immediately goes up to about 35% tax bracket, new toys, new house, treating all his posse to trips all over the place etc., legitimate living expenses,...

During the game, Archie got chased and knocked out of bounds right in front of the LSU bench. Cholly Mac reached down and gave him a hand up.... grabbing Archie's hand with the cast on it.

61-17, Dec 5, 1970

I think Archie handled the whole Maziel thing like an a-hole. he could have just said he had a sore shoulder. Not justifying the behavior but in sports guys protect each other all the time. Eli was late one year. Guess what. No problem.

Maybe Archie is pissed his #1 SEC single game total is now #5 behind 4 JFF. Maybe he will stay in top ten. Neither of his kids won Heisman.

Something tells me he is not thrilled with JFF and this was a chance to hurt his chance at another Heisman - and it very well might.

Ball players cover stuff for each other all the time. All the time.

and LSU would have kicked arse with the Mannings at QB - to think they would have been foolish is ridiculous. They are clearly champions QBs - they were going to win anywhere. LSU would have been a contender.
