re: Does being a slave make one morally superior

So where does this even minutely changing morality come from?
Perceptions of the age.
i.e., I'd not consider Theodore Roosevelt immoral though he didn't consider an all male electorate unacceptable. It was just an element of the age.

On the other hand, if today someone objected to women voting . . . oh . . . wait . . . that may not be the best example

No. In past history some who were slaves became free only to enslave other men.

And see, I view manipulative a-holes who use grubby greedy redistributionism to steal from other peoples' pocketbooks to be deplorable, and abhorrent. But, in this current age, you probably consider your leanings as perfectly acceptable.

Of course it does...you only have to look at social history norms to see it...it even differs culturally within the same era. Even religious morality changes...just look at Christianity.

A lowly ex slave like Fredrick Douglass believed denying women the right to vote WAS immoral as did many men of his era who eventually helped to change this.

'Man of his times' is an unacceptable excuse for people on the wrong side of history when there were countless examples of people who thought differently.

probably better than a slave owner. of course there are a lot of other thing you can be doing that makes you immoral. i am assuming this is the deciding factor.

I don't think so. Even when slavery was common throughout the world, the were always people who deplored the practice. However, not all forms of enslavement are equal. If two groups of people go to war with the understanding that the losers will become the slaves of the winners, is different that slavery solely based on race, religion or ethnicity.

I think you're confusing cultural norms with morality.

A slave can be just as much of a douchebag as his owner. I don't see how he would be automatically superior, just from being enslaved.

Amen! Vince Lombardi, whose life has been described as one long morality play, spoke out against the mistreatment of gays more than 50 years ago in his locker room! Considering the times, that took courage but there are many examples of people like him throughout history.

You're insane if you think THAT was ever wrong.

But seriously, societal norms and morals aren't the same thing.

The definition of what is moral/immoral behavior in 2013 is drastically different in some respects to what was moral/immoral behavior in 1790. That is is an unarguable fact.
