I'm working an extra 6 hours a week. I'll gross $600 a month for that extra 6 hours. $25 an hr.
Salary 47k
Wife is at home for a while with a newborn soon so the extra cheese will help a little.

I said f$%k it and started taking a day off a week. I was feeling stressed busting arse 5 days a week plus call nights and weekends. Then to see the government take 40%, I said f$%k it and work to what I feel is a comfortable level and that's it. They have killed my incentive to grow my business and my income. Law of diminishing returns.

Problem is that 20 hours only changes my take home by about a 1000 bucks.
500 extra a week isn't bad
Get it while you can. If you're content with your pay without the overtime, just save all of it.

Be glad it's not the late 1970's when the IRS alone would be smacking you for 70% being a high earner and all that.

You mean back when you could deduct EVERYTHING. Nobody paid that much.

What in the world kind of government job do you have that after 3:30 you become OT?!?!?!
Do you get to the office at 6 AM?

The federal government withholds money from your checks as if you are making the amount of the check every pay period. So if you are working OT in some periods and not in others, the OT periods will have more taken from them than you will owe - and the non-OT paychecks will have less taken from them than you owe. Because you will notice the former effect more than the latter, this will give the illusion that OT pay is being "punished" more than it really is.
