Great read. The guy seemed genuine and honest. I think everyone knows that people in college athletics break and bend the rules. But isn't it like real life? Most people generally do the right thing. But at the same time, most people are human; they're not perfect.

News flash.
College chicks dig certain attributes possessed by certain college guys?
How many lsu guys have slated poon because they went jogging in "lsu law" gym shorts.
I think an investigation needs to be done.

Just another fact of how SI has slowly over the years turned into pure garbage....

Good read. He stated what we all pretty much assumed anyway. College sports are no different than everyday life, some ppl follow the rules some don't. Coaches can't babysit their players every minute of everyday. Money and favors exchange hands and I'm sure most coaches suspect its going on but are not stupid enough to encourage it.

People don’t seem to realize that being on the football team is a tremendous time commitment every semester. Memorizing a playbook is difficult, even for the smart ones. You get worn out and tired. Balancing academics and sports is not impossible, plenty of people do it, but it is certainly more difficult. If you’re going to put tremendous pressure on your team to do well, if you’re going to fire coaches and boo players, don’t be surprised when academics take a back seat to their very publicly scrutinized athletic performance

AS a member of LSU soccer team a long time ago and as a Ph.D. student at LSU who taught undergraduate classes with student athletes in those classes I completely agree with this article.

Pro common sense and rationale thinking.
Great article.

t makes me sad....at the very least Les is a public figure, but this Talley is a man in a ministry position and to soil his character without having any facts in a national publication is just wrong.
Totally agree. If you read the comments and compare the backgrounds of the players defending this gentleman with the ones disparaging his character it seems to point quite clearly to the fact that he helped (or tried to as much as possible) the players that did things the right way and didn't expect gross preferential treatment and did not extend that same help to the pre-madonna /selfish players that expected it from him and others for nothing.

By Friday I think a lot of people are going to be either laughing at SI or just bored to death with the whole thing.
Seriously 10 month "investigation" and no facts just prison interviews? Yahoo at least has receipts and shite.

Actually, the Yahoo article about SEC players makes this literally the old news.

Guy says that athletes get special treatment. It isn't institutionalized special treatment. It is individuals giving certain athletes special treatment.
Guys outside the program may give athletes a few hundred bucks here and there for stuff like cutting grass because they are big-time athletes. They may buy them free meals. 90% of the athletes turn that stuff down. The other 10% accept it.
Some professors may give athletes special treatment so that they can play on Saturday. Athletes take easier majors and can get away with not going to class as much. They get free tutoring, and some tutors may overstep their bounds because they are athletes.
Girls like the Orange Pride girls are usually girls who like sports and their job is to show athletes around and do things like put candy in their lockers. Some of those girls are "jersey chasers" and join Orange Pride to date (or have sex) with athletes. But they are doing that on their own for their own motives.
He said the coaches like Miles warned against these types of things. He always reminds the athletes not to accept money, use common sense, and go to class to keep your grades high. He said they had 3 goals: 1. 100% graduation rate 2. National Championship 3. Big XII championship
Miles and the coaches always tried to steer them in the right direction.
So all of this stuff like getting paid, getting grades they don't deserve, having sex with girls, etc... it DOES happen. But it isn't anything sponsored by the football program. It is individuals giving special treatment to the big-time athletes they come in contact with, and morally loose athletes taking advantage.

Seems legit other than his 10/90 ratio.
