Maybe we'll only carry 5 DL?
Jordan
Bunkley
Foster
Jenkins
Hicks

Richardson seemed to outplay Walker and Johnson (and Hicks, but he's obviously not going anywhere).

They MUST be confident that Junior and/or Martez will be ready. No way Rufus gets that much action week 1.

I don't know. He played DE and OLB. Seemed like a lock.

Richardson was actually filling Smith's role as a hybrid OLB/DE but mostly playing OLB.

Walker is making the cut. You can't go in that thin at a position that gets dinged up a lot. And he has been grading out really well on PFF(not that they are the be all end all but it is a good barometer).

Really shocked to see Richardson go especially since he was taking the first team snaps but it definitely means Wilson and Galette are ready to go and that they like Haralson better as a vet.

Edit: And yeah Richardson is the first real shock but looking back he was actually playing DE only until Butler, Galette, and Wilson went down. I guess they wanted to see if he could play so they threw him with the 1s.

With the Haralson trade and Galette and Wilson coming back he was going to be the 4th OLB at best. Guess that means they like Atkins better(I doubt it) and/or that they are keeping Johnson and only carrying and only carrying 4 OLBs.

Makes me think they might keep 9 OL for the first time in 4 years.

I like Tom too. So, it's a lose lose for me if they only keep one.

And they must be confident that Parys Haralson will be familiar enough with the scheme to play.

I guess that's a possibility too, but Tom John hasn't been showing much. I think more likely it's another OL as Harris, Lelito, and Jones(along with Armstead) are all VERY good young prospects and they may not want to risk any of them.

The team may be looking to add someone from off the waiver wire.

Still surprised they let Richardson go though. I thought he looked solid at OLB/DE

For some reason, the Richardson is stinging a bit. I was rooting for that guy.

I want to say too I'm a little shocked by some of this because they usually cut the vets a day early if they know they won't keep them and cut the young players late if they know they won't keep them.

So all these vets getting cut today may have trouble getting on somewhere now.

But this is definitely a youth movement going on with Roby, Carr, and now Richardson. All veteran depth that is now getting replaced.

Saints really only have 3 OLBs on the roster. Yikes.
