From having the players Ryan needs to be successful. Getting rid of a few starters too.

Well, I disagree.

What do you have to say to that?

IMO players we need to move on from:

Jenkins
Harper
Smith

We'll have to keep them this year though. Jenkins is a real disappointment. I know it's the preseason, but he constantly takes bad angles.

I agree with that. It was even mentioned in the halftime show that the scheme was there, but not the personnel

Define "successful".

I expect the defense to be "top" 25. 20 would be a damn good year IMO.

2 defensive drafts away from being damn good top 10-12? I'd agree with that. Hell, maybe one playmaker away from top half.

I don't see any reason (aside from injuries) they can't be successful this season.

We may be 2 drafts away from being a great defense, but I think we have the pieces in place this year to have a top 20 defense. That's probably good enough for a deep playoff run.

Agreed. I really don't see any way possible Smith is around next year and Harper and Jenkins aren't helping themselves either.

Personnel would be fine if our top 3 OLBs weren't out with injuries. The DL is talented and deep. CBs should be fine once Lewis gets acclimated. ILBs are adequate. Vaccaro looks to have hit the ground running. Give us back Butler/Junior/Tez and I think that we're a safety away from having one stud (Jordan) and 10 players in that average to above average range. Obviously Butler isn't coming back this season, but I think the other two guys will be a nice improvement over Smith and Richardson or whoever the frick has been lining up at OLB on the strongside.

Rob Ryan isn't a very good coach.

But sure, 2 drafts.

All we need is an "average defense" to succeed with this great offense. If we can rank in the 15-20 range, we can win it all. Reference the 2009 season.....

This guy gets it. This defense held the Texans, an offensive juggernaut in this league, albeit without Foster, to only 13 points in a half. With our offense, that's all we need from them.

13 points, right. 281 yards, 40 snaps I think and they had the ball 18 minutes...but yeah we will be fine...

Playing next to Harper rubbed off on him.

They did tighten up after the 2nd drive. 13 points is 13 points. They don't count for more if the yardage is greater.

Who cares if they had the ball for 58 minutes and put up 600 yards of offense. If we held them to 13 points, its 13 points.

What doesn't make sense about that?
