This may be a dumb question, but why is the water level not dropping in this sinkhole. If this thing is taking earth and trees down, one would think that the water level should be dropping.

Honestly I don't know the answer to that question. But I don't think it's a hole like you're imagining it. There's salt domes and pipelines underneath the bayou.

They were supposed to be making a 3D model layout of the bayou to help them fully understand how and why this is happening. I believe that was supposed to be finished in May, but I haven't heard anything about it since.

Speaking to someone in the know lately I was told they don't even know how deep this thing is yet. Crazy shite.

Yea, that's what's so frustrating about this thing. Everyone wants answers but no one really knows anything. Everything I've heard is all merely speculation.

Water level there is sea level. Also, that swamp is not cut off from the GOM. It is connected to Bayou Corne, which is connected to Lake Verret, from which you can reach the GoM via many water ways. Water level will never drop below sea level. It is impossible. The bigger question is if/when will slough stop.

I think all they do is make brine water.

During the Lake Peigneur event in 1980, the lake was drained by the sink hole but a connecting canal that ran all the way to the GOM fed the hole and created a 150ft waterfall.
