So you really believe, in all your wisdom, that someone will come knock on your door under the ACA legislation for a home inspection that was authorized under a program that deals with children even though you have no children.

No. I'm not for the program at all. I just think the majority of idiots against it don't know specifically why they are against it or should be against it.

And, we'll assume for the sake of argument, you are not including me in this number?

quote:

Then you have a whole new section of idiots who think people will be busting down doors for home inspections and death panels.

You have to admit that a lot of Crazy Sarah Palin's warnings have had more than a kernel of truth (as it turns out), but she can see Alaska from her house and Ann Romney has a horse.

I know you support portions of the ACA, but you understand that it is not only crazy, tin-foil hate wearers that just oppose the entire thing - and with a lot of justification. This provision is 1 of thousands of things wrong with legislation that hasn't gotten a single thing correct - in other words, just another day at the office for the U.S Congress.

Yes, they're looking to kill people.

They're used to monitor and institute best practices. Not review specific cases and legislate individual coverage. If anything they'll provide policy changes on a large scale.

so instead of targeted choices, they will make sweeping regulations that kill thousands?

great argument.

The tinfoil hat wearers undermine the legitimate arguments against the legislation.

I'm not saying any of it's right or what I believe to be right. I'm just telling you the facts.

But seriously, they won't have much control, rather they direct the insurance companies what to cover and how to apply coverage.

People experience this same crap through Medicare every year. And they only kill like 1/100

So the gist of your argument is that you, like the rest of us dolts, think the ACA is mostly shite but we just aren't as smart as you and don't like it for the wrong reasons?

Seems like an awful lot of hand-waving for nothing.

No. I just think it's important to be against something for the right reasons and be educated why you don't like it. Otherwise you're Sarah Palin.

If you want to effectively argue against the legislation and "win" the day, you can't go around making insane claims like the ACA is a cover for the govt to harrass veterans who will lead the next revolution....Someone seriously said that.

quote:

if, as you claim, you DO have to participate in Medicade to be subject to these regulations, then that would be spelled out in the legislation.

So, show me where it is delineated in the legislation. I am asking you to prove your affirmative argument.

This is a reasonable request.

This should be a slam dunk to shut CptBengal up, if what CajunRevolution stated is accurate.

Does anyone ever "win" the day?

I just enjoy listening to the arguments. "You are too stupid" just doesn't hold much sway.

Here is the legislation:

quote:

The purpose of the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Competitive Grant program is to award Development Grants to States that currently have modest home visiting programs and want to build on existing efforts. Successful applicants will sufficiently demonstrate the capacity to expand or enhance their existing evidence-based home visiting programs. The funding provided will build on the formula funding already provided to States and territories to support the quality implementation of home visiting programs.

Additionally, this funding opportunity will continue the program's emphasis on rigorous research by grounding the proposed work in relevant empirical literature, and by including requirements to evaluate work proposed under this grant. In Fiscal Year (FY) 2012, approximately $12,000,000 will be available to support competitive Development Grants to eligible States and jurisdictions under the MIECHV program. $125,000,000 will be awarded on a formula basis to grantees funded under HRSA-11-187 for the MIECHV program. Successful applicants will be awarded FY 2012 competitive Development Grant funds, in addition to the FY2012 MIECHV formula based funds.

Priority for Serving High-Risk Populations and Programmatic Areas of Emphasis As directed in the legislation , successful applicants will give priority to providing services to the following populations: a) Eligible families who reside in communities in need of such services, as identified in the statewide needs assessment required under subsection (b)(1)(A). b) Low-income eligible families. c) Eligible families who are pregnant women who have not attained age 21. d) Eligible families that have a history of child abuse or neglect or have had interactions with child welfare services. e) Eligible families that have a history of substance abuse or need substance abuse treatment. f) Eligible families that have users of tobacco products in the home. g) Eligible families that are or have children with low student achievement. h) Eligible families with children with developmental delays or disabilities. i) Eligible families who, or that include individuals who, are serving or formerly served in the Armed Forces, including such families that have members of the Armed Forces who have had multiple deployments outside of the United States." In addition, the Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA) and the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) have identified the following programmatic areas of emphasis. Applicants may propose to address one or more of these areas in response to this funding opportunity announcement: o Emphasis 1: Improvements in maternal, child, and family health o Emphasis 2: Effective implementation and expansion of evidence-based home visiting programs or systems with fidelity to the evidence-based model selected o Emphasis 3: Development of statewide or multi-State home visiting programs o Emphasis 4: Development of comprehensive early childhood systems that span the prenatal-through-age-eight continuum o Emphasis 5: Outreach to high-risk and hard-to-engage populations o Emphasis 6: Development of a family-centered approach to home visiting o Emphasis 7: Outreach to families in rural or frontier areas o Emphasis 8: The development of fiscal leveraging strategies to enhance program sustainability For a more detailed description of each area of emphasis, please see Appendix A: MIECHV Programmatic Emphasis Areas.

I highlighted some areas and words for discussion. I'll reply with breaking it down.

re: Obamacare: mandatory home inspections to make sure you are being "good"

It's going to be very hard to find...the legislation is byzantine (a legitimate problem) but the legislation the Cpt links to is legislation to fund existing state programs...the programs will have money to visit "Eligible Families" which meet the scary criteria...I haven't yet found an the definition of "Eligible Family" but a general reading of most of the websites I looked into described it generally as poor parents who are on some type of federal benefits program....those who want to participate in this program (at state level where it is run) will have to submit to a lottery since too many will enroll...it's for shite like headstart etc from what I can tell. And it's a crap program because it's a waste of money, even at $12MM.
