re: Method to appease you idiot neutral site supporters

you can thank the great eddie robinson for neutral games now days, especially the cowboys classic. one of the big wigs from the cowboys was at a fundraiser for the legendary grambling st head coach eddie robinson's foundation.

I did not know this, until I read the article in the newstar about 7 years ago. The speaker at this fundraiser talked about how eddie robinson was able to lock up deals for neutral site games as early as 1960 for his team to play other teams at a neutral site. grambling only played 1 game at home back then and that was homecoming. grambling became a staple around the country playing at these big pro stadiums, and he said it was big in recruiting. After going to NYC, LA, Chicago and Miami on a regular basis the recruits started pouring in from those cities. Eddie Robinson asked Alabama, LSU, Penn St., Tennessee, Texas and Oklahoma for games in the 60s to mid 70s at a neutral site, and of course they all refused. Grambling St. played in historic stadiums all over the USA including Japan Those stadiums included yankee stadium, rose bowl, superdome, orange bowl, kingdome, legion field, soldier field, korakeun stadium (tokyo, japan), rca dome, texas stadium, astrodome, silverdome, LA coliseum & cotton bowl.

The thing that stuck was, these was yearly events and grambling football plus the marching band was the 1st school to make a regular season neutal site stadium a million dollars (not including bowl games). Then the names were born state farm bayou classic & coca cola football classic.

This guy goes to jerry jones with the idea of a cowboys classic that starts the cfb season. These games will never stop they will only get bigger. you can look for LSU to give up 2 home games a year to neutral sites in the future and they will be playing 4 neutral site games a year soon after that.

LSU makes 3 mill per home game, they went to dallas vs oregon and made 3.5 mill while oregon took 2 mill. last year bamma and michigan split 4.7 mill. Look foward to the superdome to get in on this kickoff classic paper chase. If jerry can pay 2 teams a total of 9 mill he has to make at least 50 mill off that game. thanks to ole coach eddie rob the home and home matchups are all but gone now.

Would anyone have a problem with the NCAA and/or SEC mandating that every school play at least one out of state, non-conference, non-neutral site game every year?

That way, every school would sort of be forced to keep at least two decent OOC games on the schedule each year (to fit in the need for home-and-homes), still leaving room for two garbage home rent-a-wins every year.

I just find it laughable that there are posters on here with the mentality of "we should just take it" or "we have it better than 90% of fbs". What's wrong with wanting something better?

Well shit, I want to work 10 hours a week and make 500k. I also want to be taller and better looking. frick this better home game schedule.

"Do yall realize that those crappy home games make it easier for us to win NC's right? We could play no one big at all and still make the NC if we win out in the SEC."

Believe it or not, I love the actual football games, not just aspiring to win a national title. Beating a quality OOC opponent is its own reward for those of us who love the game itself, not just whether our team does or doesn't win it all that year.

Secondarily, playing a good team OOC can go a long way toward separating teams with the same record vying for a spot in the title game (or playoff). See 2007 in which LSU's win over Va. Tech figured prominently in the Tigers getting the nod.

To the general public, they pretty much are. But congrats on being well-connected

Oh really? So then a home game against Furman should be just as important as a neutral site game vs an OOC opponent.

How on earth could you have drawn this from anything I said. I disagree entirely with what you just said and deny any logical connection between your inane assertion and anything I posted.

Lol, it just took me 1 min to search and filter on stubhub to find 1500+ reserved seat (not stands room only) for between $70 and $100 to the tcu LSU game.

No doubt. TCU is no Oregon. I was disappointed that we scheduled a NS game with a 2nd tier program.

Not knocking TCU, but they are no Ohio State, Oregon, Alabama, USC, etc.

I was being sarcastic with the well-connected comment, chief. I'm confused at the point you were trying to make though. You said internet postings were not indicative of how hard tickets are to come by, and then you follow it up by using stubhub to make a point about how easy tickets are to come by.

So do you really think the Athletic Department is consciously refusing to play OOC games in Tiger Stadium? You act like you know what goes on in terms of negotiations, deals, etc. Ever stop to think maybe OTHER teams don't really want to have to play in Tiger Stadium?

In sentence 2, you accuse me of acting like I know what goes on...despite the fact that I've never suggested anything of the sort, and then in the third sentence basically suggest you do know.

Do you, or are you merely speculating that these teams are refusing to play in Tiger Stadium?

SC went to Auburn, Penn St went to BAMA...we've had VT, Washington, etc here fairly recently. it seems like it's possible.

It's a complicated issue and it can't be broken down in such simplistic terms, especially by a bunch of random idiots on a message board.

The logistics of scheduling can be hard...explaining why it's a growing trend is not unexplainable.

To the OP, make a decision about your season tickets. I let my 4 go after 08. Bigger nutt to butt crowds(more expansion coming), death of the night game and horrible OOC games did it for me. Now I pick the game I want to go to and pony up, easy. And with the money saved I bought a condo on the beach in Ecuador.
