if i had to make a list of things that would never happen, lifeson in the lead for 80s guitarist game would be #1.

Like I said before, I think its hard to vote based on just guitar skills alone. Satriani was a better technical player than lifeson for damn sure but he got bumped early. I agree though that SRV and EVH are pretty much the two best from the eighties, at least for people who came from bands that achieved widespread notariety.

Now that I'm looking at it and thinking about it a little more, Rush did have some very technical and coordinated riffs. The four guitar players listed above are some of the best time for damn sure.

I always felt Alex Lifeson was a bit underrated. He is not one of the first players people think of when they think of guitarists from the eighties. People usually think of "shredders" with sick technical abilities, but Lifeson, in looking at his body of work, is one of the most well-rounded of all of the guitarists of his time.
