I don't begrudge our band a fun trip to Ireland, but I do wish that they would go to more than one road game each year. I assume that the Cowboy Classic counts as their road trip for this season.

True road game? Not sure that has ever happened.
For the neutral site games and bowls the AD using the revenue from that game towards taking the band (They may even demand the Cowboy's Classic pay for the bands).
Traditionally, it has been 1 full band away trip, and 100 member pep bands for the other 3. That extends into the 90's.

The band pays for it out of their budget. My parents are going on the trip but I'm not.

The AD can SELL those tickets to the game. If they wanted, State and Ole Miss could both be same day trips

LSU academic and LSU athletics are two seperate financial entities.
It's one of few programs to require no support from the university. In fact, they cut the university a check every year.

The full band went to Auburn last year. If it weren't for the Cowboy Classic I'd have to guess they'd be going to either Georgia or Bama

Band member stipends come directly from the athletic dept which is funded separately from the university
