What about all the old fricks using amphetamines? Why are mantle and aaron ok but others not? frick that. Cheating has been going on since the dawn of the game. Cheating is cheating.

Take out all the speed users and i will agree

The baseball HOF was already a huge crock of shite, and it is rapidly becoming even more of a joke.

phony moral outrage
You could be more accurate and call it rule-following instead of using that buzz phrase used to portray those who would rather players not cheat as phony and morally outraged. The issue isn't whether or not baseball players who cheat are bad people; the issue is whether or not baseball players who cheat cheat. It's cheating. Move it aside and let's watch real players who don't cheat.
quote:

But the idea that the best hitter and pitcher of the past half century are both eligible but not in the Hall is absurd (Clemens and Bonds).
Just like the idea of me standing on stilts and not being acknowledged as the tallest man on earth is absurd. (borrowed from Costas)
quote:

We are reaching a point where the players left out of the Hall are far superior to those getting elected.
Not the issue. If those who decide who gets in the Hall want to not vote for people because they cheated, then that's that. If those who decide who gets in the Hall want to not vote for people because they think they cheated, then that's that.

Even the players who didn't cheat benefitted from the deals crafted by a players union who protected cheaters. This is their own doing, and the consequences will be that many of them won't go to the Hall of Fame. It makes perfect sense whether you want to pretend that it's phony moral outrage or not.

What line do you draw?

Things that are legal: not cheating.

Also, it is bull shite to keep guys like Bonds and Clemens out. If they are out, you may as well just shut down the HOF.

HOF > Bonds and Clemens

Lou, we should make a real HOF with Pete Rose, Joe Jackson, any left out Negro Leaguers, steroid users, and any other gipped players.

Different situation since they're already in. I don't know the answer to this one (I also do not know what was legal and illegal 60 years ago and who did illegal things).

A lot of these players you are bitching about were taking "illegal" supplements, but the league did not punish them for failing a test. That is fully the fault of MLB, not the players.

Bonds > HOF. He literally defeated baseball from 2001-2004.

They took illegal drugs and knew it. Pull them out of the Hall if you do not want the steroid era players in. You are hypocritical otherwise.

The HOF is a museum nothing more nothing less. To say its bigger than the people that played is dumb. It's purpose is to tell the story of the game, not selectively decide what story to tell.

That is how I see it.

And I don't have to prove anything to you. The information is out there it's been linked numerous times on this site.

Take George Brett out. He corked his bat. That's cheating.

If legality is the issue then why let weed users in? And most got it from a doctor so not illegal so stop with the stupid shite.

Just admit you are ok with the old guys using speed everyday but not those that used juice. Both peds and both illegal at the time, except one came from the doctor which makes it legal.

So i ask again why are some allowed while others or not?

Why or pain killers and pain numbing shots or cortico steroid shots ok but not test? All come from the doctor, all are peds, and all are illegal if not from a doctor, whatsthe difference?

Not to mention that the players juiced up were hitting homers off of juiced up pitchers. it's not like it wasnt an even playing field.

MLB doesn't vote on who gets in the Hall. It is perfectly reasonable for a baseball writer to refrain from voting into the Hall a player who used illegal drugs to gain a competitive edge even if there are players in the Hall of Fame who knowingly did so.
