If they lowered prices Gamestop would just give people even less on trade ins so they could still sell used for less to compensate for the difference.

Profit on a first party sale for Gamestop is like $10-$15. On a used game it is 100% of anything above what they bought it back for and that can be as high as $30 on newer titles they give people $25 for and sell for $55.

I saw this yesterday and found it interesting, I know, I'm getting back to topic. It is pretty messed up that gamestop could potentially make more off one copy of a game buy selling it over and buying it again than the developer can. That I have a problem with. I only buy games new now. I would get digital copies if their prices were better. I do think Sony could have more big sales to help steer people that direction.

I buy all my games new unless it is a game that is old and I cannot find it new anywhere.

Stout, serious question since you wouldn't let me discuss it yesterday in another thread... did Microsoft say that they wanted to change pricing or anything like that or is that just what people are assuming?

Hog is a sad sad tiny little child man boy who is probably destroying his search bar looking for a way to put an end to this madness as we speak.

One of their engineers (allegedly) did a informal Q&A on 4Chan gaming and said it.

Also, after MS reversed their policies one of their top guys squashed some rumors people were spreading about how it wouldn't have worked by going more into detail about what they were going to do with pricing and the family share plan had they stuck to the DRM model.

Well they definitely screwed up marketing it. They played right into sony's/ultimatehog's hands with their inability to communicate.

Oh no, it's you who is focusing on the wrong thing. He went in there with a pre-determined opinion. No matter what they said to him, he was going to bash them. The guy tried to save him $5. He tried to help out a consumer get the same gaming experience without paying more. This developer comes off like an entitled douchebag. Your company already made money when GameStop purchased the game from you at the wholesale price. What they sell it for after that is none of his concern. He's being a whiny little entitled bitch. I know it, Gamestop knows it, he knows it, and you know it.

I imagine that's easier said than done when the platform you develop for let's it be free reign on used games.

Guess what? Not everyone wants to go buy a brand new copy on the first week a game is released. If I can buy the same game for $54.99 that someone else paid $59.99 for, I'm going to do it. I'm about getting what I want, for cheaper. Why should I pay $5 extra for the exact same thing?

Let me ask you this, if you go out to dinner with your lady or whomever, and you order a steak. They tell you that you can order one steak that's $25 or another that's $20 and there is no difference between the two. Same size, same cut, brought in at the same time, and so on and such. The only difference is the price, are you really going to pay more? Absolutely not.

Yea it was bad on them but a few their execs have basically said that it all isn't 100% off the table. They just shelved those plans for now. They just simply changed their strategy I suspect and will slow roll it instead of forcing it like they were initially going to do.

Seriously... I think Microsoft ends up losing / winning this next gen

they will get more people playing games on Window's systems!

Does Microsoft get a small amount of $$ for games sold using Windows as the OS?

Or I could just sit at home and probably pay less for the same steak and cook it myself. Also don't have to worry about tipping so I save money that way.

Macatak911's solution is more simple: offer a $10 discount for digital games. One less copy on the market for resale.

There is ZERO reason for a digital game to cost as much as a physical copy. The main reason I buy very few digital games that have physical copies is the prices are bullshite. (that and the BS prices they charge for large official hard drives) If I'm going to pay the same either way I'm going to buy the version I can actually own and use on multiple systems.

But we all know that won't happen.

sadly true.

Your analogy is bad in that I enjoy gaming and like to support it. I have no interest in supporting Gamestop that is merely a retail outlet.

I do have an interest in supporting developers and publishers that directly support my hobby with more games. $5 is nothing to me in the long run if it ensures we don't see another THQ go under. That creates less competition in the market place and the worse things get for us as consumers.

You think someone like EA mails games in now? Imagine if Activision went under like THQ did.

I thought GameStop purchased it from the customer.. not from the developer..?!?! What am I missing here

Gamestop bought it at wholesale and purposely took off their $14 profit from a new game to make it used so they could sell it to the customer for no profit?!?! HUH!?!?!?!

If the $20 steak is $5 off because it's already been on someone else's plate, or you could go to another restaurant and get the exact same steak for $15 off and you know for a fact that it hasn't been on someone else's plate.. I'll go with the $15 off one thanks

His analogy doesn't work because a steak is consumed once whereas games can be sold/resold as long as the disk isn't scratched.
