I really believe we will be a better football team this year than last.
Need JHill back and Dline and ZMett to stay healthy.

I'm hoping they don't keep Mett boxed in on the side-line. WTF was that anyway? Imo, he needs to be involved with the team.

IMO, the key to this team will be whether or not our pass protection looks different than it was last year.

One of the things we should get out of bringing in a NFL coordinator is an understanding of how to implement a sophisticated pass protection scheme.

If we can do that, we'll compete for the SEC title. Out pass protection at times last year was horrendous...and was what kept us from playing for a NC last year.

People often point to Mettenberger's progress as a key, but IMO, Mettenberger can be exactly the same guy as last year if our pass protection takes a major step forward. That will be enough.

it was so that Kragthorpe could white board with Mett without the other team seeing what they were doing...

I have no problem with getting Miles input on 4th down and 2 minute drill. Anywhere the head coach is “head” is on the line for 4th calls and 2 minute drill. Works he is a hero. Don’t and he’s a goat.

You have to remember a good OC is like a chess player. They are always thinking plays ahead. I can see him in a key situation on 2nd down saying if we don’t get a 1st down do you want to go for it and suggesting several plays based on distance.

The key will be if they call time out on 3rd down or during the 2 minute drill when the QB comes to the sideline does he put the headphones on to talk to Cam. I can’t recall ever seeing that.

On another note I felt like last year not thinking ahead was one of our problems. There was no flow on offense. It was like we waited to see what happened then looked to see what play to call.

I hope by this that means that we will actually use the TE. I have never seen a team make so little use of a TE up the middle (or anywhere actually) as LSU has in the last 4 years.

Last year we had some vertical passing but it was almost always down the sidelines. I would like to see more pressure put on the LB's in coverage.

I don't think he said Rettig was the most improved player, he said he was most improved in the strength and conditioning program.

Big distinction here.

Surprised no one mentioned that he said we have receivers who could carry the ball as well (when speaking to if Hill isn't there). Jet sweep to OBJ?

Yea, it's not really up to the OC if the team goes for it on 4th down or not. As long as Miles says yes or no, and doesn't try to call the play as well we should be fine

Instant boner.

I hope this guy breaks Les Miles of his tendencies.

Disagree.
We were, what? Possibly 3 or 4 first downs away from undefeated in 2012?
Mett wasn't amazing. But that's not the point. We don't need a heisman QB to win.
The point is - if they can be SERVICEABLE on offense and do what they do on defense this team will excel and can win at all levels.

I think everyon is reading too much into the vertical passing statement. Cam meant that his philosophy is to open the entire offense by having a legitimate threat of going deep at any time. Doesnt mean that he is going to bomb it a lot. He is using pass to open up run and underneath passing. If LSU can establish this at the beggining of the season, it will affect DCs' game planning and will allow for more balance.

I see a lot of 3 and outs and a tired defense in our future.

I just want to see us mix it up and go all over the field keeping defenses guessing, much like 2007. crowton called some gems that season.
