The Moto X is a mid level device, not a high end device, the Nexus 4 and iPhone 5 already have better specs than it.

Moto X runs a dual core processor, any phone made in the last 6 months or so runs a quad core.

That's why it is expected to be $199 off contract, a lower end cheaper option to Googles flagship Nexus line.

Scruffy still hasn't upgraded from the iPhone 4 and doesn't plan on upgrading until he has a free upgrade.

Scruffy doesn't understand why people purchase a new phone every year. Just a complete waste of money, ISO.

Yeah, you're right, that S4 Pro 2012 dual core processor will run Android better than Googles Nexus phone with a quad core Krait.

it's possible

there is a major diminishing return with phone specs. the hardware is out-pacing the software

I know what I said. While this phone may not be an 'official' Nexus device, Google has had a big say in how it was designed and how it performs. Google wants this to be the best Android experience for the users. This phone is as much a Google phone as it is a Motorola phone. It is also supposed to come with an unlocked bootloader like the Nexus 4. This phone has more sensors, better battery and cameras than the Nexus 4. It also has a Kevlar back unlike the easily shattered glass back of the Nexus 4.

Shake off the haters, rick...

I have Verizon, so I may hold out for this phone but don't want to be disappointed by performance. My current iPhone 4 is very sluggish with terrible battery life. I am sure this moto phone will be an upgrade and I really want the stock android software. But wondering if something better will soon follow this phone

And the Nexus line is Googles flagship line and only Googles.

Congrats, it also has an early 2012 dual core processor compared to a quad core Krait processor in the Nexus 4.

It also has the Adreno 225 GPU vs the Nexus 4's Adreno 320.

They both have 2GB of RAM however the X's is clocked at 500MHz while the N4 is clocked at 533MHz.

It also has the same size screen with lower resolution at 1280x720 vs the Nexus 4's 1280x768.

The Nexus 4 can record 1080p video at 30fps, the X can only record 720p.

As for the battery, you're right there, the X has a 2200 mAh batter and the N4 has a 2100.

And you know technology?

This phone will be a game changer at that price point

The S4 Pro came in exactly variants: a dual core one with LTE (this one that is running on the Moto X), and a quad core one without LTE (the one in Nexus 4). The exact chipset is not MSM8960T but MSM8960DT, indicating a variant of this processor.

"The processor is first of its kind and exclusive to Motorola. It will provide the most fluid android experience to date. On paper it will say dual core, behind the scenes its an octo but each core is built specifically to handle certain tasks. This will be in all the devices."

Looks like the Moto has something different under the hood

Think of it like the iPhone: How does the iPhone consistently provide a smoother experience than an Android even with inferior specs? It is because the SW and HW is designed by a vertically integrated company and are designed to work seamlessly together. Google is trying to do the same with the Moto X.

re: Moto X press shots leaked ahead of August 1st announcement

Too bad there are already benchmarks out there for the Moto X and it's well behind the N4.

You do know this is a mid level device right?

I don't know why you are trying to compare a mid level device to a high end device.

Anyone following the X knew months ago that this was going to be a phone with lower specs and a cheap price point.

Google is going to have this priced at $199 brand new unlocked, as it's mid level device.

This fall they will release the Nexus 5 at $299 and $349 like the N4 only it will have maxed out specs (S800 3GB RAM) and whatever else is new on it.

So you'll have 2 options to buy from Google, cheaper mid level device that is still good and runs good with a 4.7" display, then the more expensive high end device with the latest and greatest hardware and a 5.2" 1080p display.

I think you may be in luck this time around. While usually these unlocked type of Android devices don't usually work on Verizon, looks like the Moto X will work with Verizon (and all 4 carriers right off the bat). So that is a plus. Yes, this phone will not be the top of the line spec wise, but you will be hard pressed to find a better Android experience between now and the end of the year (when the Nexus 5 launches). Of course this is just my personal opinion.

There is always something better coming out. The good part about this phone is that it is only $199 unlocked, so you can sell it and get the iPhone 5S, Nexus 5 or whatever comes out later this year if aren't happy with the Moto X for some reason. I don't think you can go wrong here. Again, IMHO.

If I hadn't got a Nokia Lumia 521 just a few weeks ago, I'd got this phone just to play with it...and supporting a 'Assembled in America' phone is just a bonus.

re: Moto X press shots leaked ahead of August 1st announcement

Oh and don't forget that the Nexus 5 is going to have a high end Nikon camera, likely the best camera on the market outside maybe the Lumia camera and even then idk.

But it may not be on Verizon, may be like the N4, and the X is your option for CDMA and unlocked google experience at a lower price point.

But I like what Google is doing, offering 2 well priced devices for each customer base, a cheaper option for mass appeal and cost effectiveness while still providing a great experience, and a high end higher priced device for Google lovers that want the latest and greatest hardware.

Be interesting to see if one is CDMA only and the other GSM only.

The iPhone 4 specs are closer to the original Moto Razr than the Moto X.

re: Moto X press shots leaked ahead of August 1st announcement

This phone will be years ahead of the iPhone 4 in terms of performance. Here are the last few phones I have used: iPhone 4, 5, Samsung Galaxy S3, Nexus 4 and the Nokia 521. For my daily use I went directly from the iPhone 4 to the iPhone 5. The difference was night and day. Towards the end, the 4 was really struggling and had become very slow and annoying. I'd expect that the Moto X will definitely be faster than the iPhone 4. But will it be the fastest Android phone come December, probably not. The Nexus 5 will probably out spec this phone at that time. Since you can't get the Nexus 4 on Verizon, I don't see any other 'unlocked' option for you. The Nexus 5 could change that though. Again, that won't come out till December.

Thanks for the info. At that cheap price point, I think I will try out the moto x. My iPhone 4 is unbearable.

Did I read correctly that it comes out in next two weeks?

Actually looks a lot like an S3. I have found that as of late, Samsung makes better, more reliable, longer lasting electronics than Motorola. I'm not bashing Motorola as a whole..hell, I still have a surfboard modem from over 10 years agon in B.R. when I was on Cox and it's still jamming in Houma on Comcast. I'm just saying I had a Droid 2, then went to Samsung S3, and it's just a world of difference. And yes, I realize that technology is obsolete ever few years, but we had problems w/ the Droid 2's, never a hint of a problem with the S3.
