The entire country of Italy is one big tourist trap.

I disagree.

David, the leaning tower of Pisa, and the Colliseum (sp?).

Those aren't what make Italy worth it.

The good stuff: Fiesole, Positano, Ravello.

Yeah, I would if you can see the upper tram station from the harbor. If it's obscured by clouds, nah.

Some great trails up into the alpine and snowfields up there. I would base it on the weather.

Red salmon are in the streams at Mendenhall Glacier which means bears are there too. Spend time there if you can. Don't do the touristy "city/glacier tour." Catch a shuttle bus and spend more time. It's a great place.

Ruby Falls! It is so cheesy but I love the caves.

rock city

Took our daughter to Chattanooga when she was 3.5 and did the Rock City/Ruby Falls combo. Then to the aquarium later in the weekend. Fun little fall trip and I'm sure we'll repeat it in a few years when our son is about that age.

the French Quarter in general. Not knocking it b/c I always love going there. but its still a tourist trap.

I've been a few times, but only once as an adult. A couple of years ago, and it was an anniversary trip for the wife and I. Great weekend in the spring time. Drank too many hand grenades.

I wouldn't really say Breck is a tourist trap. It's a legit ski spot that a lot of people tend to flood. Real tourist traps are places like Disney world that offer no logical reason as to why you should be there.
