I admire your conviction but couldn't bring myself to do it. I saw Romney as slightly less ominous as Obama and had to put my vote where I thought it had the best chance to beat Obama. I struggle with that though bc I believe the only way to a viable 3rd party is to show support where it counts - in the voting booth.

Romney had Ak on lockdown. I voted Johnson.

Hillary may be more competent than Obama and be able to accomplish the things people feared Obama would. I would consider voting for Rand if he holds true and doesn't drift.

Honestly, the third debate was the last straw for me. They both basically sat down and agreed with each other on their neocon and hawkish foreign policy. I laughed and laughed at that. Defense contractors and the military industrial complex were fapping hard that night.

That was definitely a disappointment. I just didn't see Romney actively continuing the racial & socio-economic divide in the country. I also trusted him much more in the economic recovery. The lesser of 2 evils but 1 who I thought would do less long term damage.

She's a bit more moderate than Obama, she doesn't use race to stir divisions, and she would win a significantly large percentage of white women.

I think she would be to the left of Obama once in office. Unlike Obama, she's got some pull and combines the worst of liberal causes with big military and CJ support. Her voting record isn't much different than Obama's but she could be much more effective getting her agenda accomplished.

I agreed with this when she ran against Obama. However, many women may now be more concerned about the direction of the country rather than gender. She will get 100% of dem votes, a good portion (may not be majority) of independent and few of republican. And women's party affiliation is interesting:

quote:

Nearly four-in-ten women (37%) describe themselves as Democrats, compared with 33% who are independents and 24% who are Republicans. The share of women who call themselves independents has risen from 29% in 2008 to 33% this year, while the proportion of Democrats has declined (40% then, 37% today).

LINK

It will be interesting to see how many women vote with their independent leaning & how many vote gender based. Obama's presidency may have hurt Hillary's woman's vote.

Jesus, this sounds like a nightmare.

Hopefully The GOP can get a great candidate who would expose how terrible her ideas would be, like Rand Paul.

If Rand stays as he is and is the GOP nominee, this would be the first election in a long time where we would have polar opposites on most of the issues. I'm praying for Rand to stay what he is and make it to the convention unscathed and the establishment leaving him alone.

Hillary is smart and is all about posturing. I expect she would be left of her campaign issues. Read her voting record in the senate.

I like Rand - a lot right now - but this:

Rand is a target for both parties & will have to be right on his game to come out unscathed enough to win the presidency. I think he can do it but don't think there's a chance it will be that easy.

I don't deny it will be easy.

Democrats are going to use race and civil rights to diminish him and the hits on that won't stop.

Thug pos Karl Rove and the GOP establishment are going to do everything they can to prevent his message from becoming mainstream or at least convert him to big gov't neocon status behind closed doors. Hope he can stay strong enough to withstand both.

When Rand announces his intent and starts his campaign, I kind of feel compelled to volunteer for his campaign provided and if he still has a platform that I agree with and support.

I will feel compelled to do the same if he does this AND he shows that he is prepared to defend his image from those attacks. I can't support someone who sits back like Romney with no effective defense & ability to feed the media sound worthy bites that work for HIM. H will have to be politically & media savvy.

This was Romney's biggest problem. Like a total beta male, he let the democrats and media define him and offered little to no resistance in response. This was very much so, last summer when the dems went on a blitz of negative advertising throughout the summer and I don't recall any effective rebuttal by the Romney Campaign. I think this provided enough of a cushion to stave off the late onslaught/surge by Romney in October.

I don't think Rand Paul would allow that to happen, at least not without an effective rebuttal from his campaign.

Rand's coauthor's somewhat offensive comments about Abraham Lincoln have me worried and taking a second look at Cruz.

Republicans don't play the PR game nearly as well as Dems. They need to learn how. Winning elections is more about style than it is substance.

Yep, this is true. But part of the PR game depends on the candidate they have. If he can sell his policies well and not completely hang himself like Romney did with the 47% comments, then the campaign and party has great material to work with.

You really need a team of folks who can help a candidate sell his or her positions. Romney seemed crude and almost condescending at times. You have to know what buttons to push, and sadly, Romney tried to push buttons of people who would vote for him regardless of position instead of winning over new followers.

And this might be the difference maker last fall. The base was going to vote for him anyway, you just had to chip away a little at the other voting blocs to get a sizable enough percentage to add to the solidified base. And he failed, not epically or anything like that, just didn't get the job done. That's either on him or his team who didn't advise him well enough.
