He has the opposite problem as leaf

Leaf hated the spotlight. Manziel might just like it too much

He simply sent out a tweet telling Manziel to stop "shaming the game". He didn't reference his past mistakes/experience or do anything but act sanctimonious.

i dont think people have to bring up stuff that happened 35 years ago every time they are making a point. i mean thats a huge stretch on your part to try and call him a hypocrite.

I don't think JM is "shaming the game". That's a little much but he does seem like a douche IMO

Not at all.

Mark Mays past isn't something we are all aware of like Michael Vicks.

People are reading into Mays tweet things that aren't there.

" oh May was just trying to tell him not to go down the same path he went."

No May just acted like a pompous prick and its not the first time he has acted like that on tweeter.

When did a I shite on him? I said I have no problem with him enjoying being Johnny Football. I know I would. I even said stripping him of the Heisman is stupid. I just pointed out your factual error -- he has been arrested and convicted (just last week!).

I also pointed out attacking May does not actually refute his points. It's an ad hominem attack. While funny, it doesn't mean he's wrong. So, i think since we're attacking media members in this thread, the Advocate's similar conduct over similar charges were relevant. I doubt I'll "take things up with them" because I don't have that much emotionally invested in it, just enough to talk about it on a message board.

ETA: Also, what did they finish 5th in the SEC? 6th? That is a step above Ole Miss, so he was kind of right.

Tied for fourth with LSU and South Carolina. LSU had the worst record of the three.

As I said we were talking about things after the trophy was voted on, as factors to strip Manziel of his award. Has he been accused of violating any laws since December 2012?

His conviction/plea deal may have been last week but I'm pretty sure voters knew this was one of the possible outcomes when they voted. You think the Heisman Trust would consider this as a reason?

What were his points? That Manziel is "shaming the game"? That's not a point that's an opinion. If I'm going to use a persons opinion to form some type of judgement of another person, then I feel his past deeds are more than fair game.

They were relevant to your opinion of the Advocate and that's about it.

No. For the third time, I think it would be stupid to strip him of the Heisman. I agree with you there. Now you're revising your statement, but the initial comment you made was in reply to Soph, who was making the case that Johnny Football is an embarrassment. You said it's not like he's been arrested which is, I've pointed out, not true. He has been. This is unrelated to the silly arse Heisman argument he threw out.

I agree with your larger point, I was just pointing out that he had indeed been arrested. And he was convicted just a few days ago, which is newsworthy, and relevant to the discussion of whether Manziel is bringing shame to the game.

His points were the ones I largely disagreed with and you refuted elsewhere. It is possible for me to agree with your larger point and disagree with you on the details, my hypersensitive friend. He made an argument. And yes, opinions are points. They are not distinct. You use facts to build to a larger point, or opinion. I disagreed with your fact, but agreed with your larger opinion.

I also disagree that his past sins are fair game. It's an ad hominem attack, and it just makes your argument look weaker than it is. Why do it? I think your argument is strong enough without denying facts and making logical fallacies.

I think Manziel should enjoy this time. It will be the best time of his life, and he gets a rare chance to be a near godlike figure. Live it up. Don't kill anyone or anything, but have a good time. I disagree with May, too. I just thought you overstated your case.

And again, I'm not proposing that JFF be stripped of his Heisman. Rather, I think that there are those who would say that.

Hell, we have people not only predicting but also anticipating his fall from grace. They're almost ready to celebrate such a thing.

So it's not far fetched to say that some sanctimonious douche associated with the Heisman trust would argue that this recent conviction coupled with the other stuff would be grounds for removing his trophy based on their nebulous "standards".
