Amazing work by Dell.

But I seriously doubt we are going to use that full 6.7 on only one player. I think that will be two players, and a third player added through the MLE.

Maybe a Joe Ingles type + a mediocre big + Aminu.

This makes no sense. Loomis is working for the Pells same as the Saints. If he's doing good for the Pells, he deserves recognition.

But people are assuming that Loomis is involved in the financial details just because he's a reknowned bean counter. Demps has been working magic with the cap since he got here. One of his early moves was dumping Peja to stave off Bankruptcy a few months and he turned Peja's $15 million expiring into a $9 million trade exception and 2 expiring contracts. Neither of them were eventually used, but he was told to cut payroll and he managed to do so while keeping his financial flexibility intact. I think all of these recent posts giving Loomis credit when we have no reason to assume he's intimately involved is short changing Demps.

I keep forgetting about Ingles. I'd be more than happy if this is how we filled out the rest of our roster.

Maybe Zaza at Center? He's be an upgrade defensively and on the board over Lopez.

Loomis is involved, as far as I know, in a very perfunctory way. He's there to make sure Tom Benson is protected. I think that's about it.

I doubt he, personally, has anything to do with the accounting and salary cap stuff.

And I wouldn't expect him to be doing anything else but oversight. He sort of has a day job Why so many are so quick to think he's standing over Demps' shoulder telling him how to manipulate a very different cap governed by a very different CBA is beyond me. It's not like these posters are Demps haters, they just seem to love them some Loomis.

Like I said, I think Dell tells Loomis the plan, and how much they will cost, and how he thinks it affects the team.

Loomis says: "Ok".

He tells Benson.

Benson says: "I was taking a nap."

Rita says: "Can't you see I'm busy here? Now get down there Helena."

Would love to have him, but I feel like he's probably going to get paid fairly well.

He is coming off an achilles injury I think though, so maybe not. But he's supposed to be ready by camp. I just feel like Atlanta is going to strike out on Dwight and Josh Smith, and they are going to need to reach the salary floor somehow.

Loomis is rising. I think protection is a good word to use. I think he looks at stuff to make sure the bases are covered, makes sure all the angles are looked at. I think he takes care of some duties so Dell can focus on other things. For example, Monty mentioned Loomis setting up various meetings for him. That's one less thing for Dell to do, for instance.

Ahh... seems like yesterday people were crucifying Dell for signing Gordon to a max deal

Yet the Pels have the best cap guy in the biz as their executive VP and he's not giving input on the construction of the roster?

It's best for us all if twice as much good stuff to read about the same topics is out there. Makes the readers and writers better. I'm trying to make sure that happens more.

Watch Dell throw a curve ball at us and move Withey or Smith for another center, or hell Roberts, Miller, and Rivers could be traded too

You ever thought about trying to catch on with an NBA team?

I always have to be careful here about wind ups, but I'll answer the question on its face.

No.

I have thought about trying to get on with a racing outfit (NASCAR), actually. I'd work for Hendrick or Waltrip or Penske for free for a year if they let me try to do my thing in the background, gave me access to data.

For a lower tier outfit, I'd need some cash, like Furniture Row since the data wouldn't be as good and I'd be in Denver.

As far as a team goes . . . from what I can tell the work is a nightmare and you really have zero control. I don't have the people skills to work directly with those of less than robust constitutions or extreme patience, at least when the other party is free to run screaming.

I have thought about something related. If it comes to pass, I'll let you guys know.

But I'm an observer and an analyst. That's what I should be doing. Not `doing something' with a team. The team has reacted to things I've said in the past, contacted me (positively) about stuff. I do not ever want to be in their pocket, as that affects the analysis and objectivity. So, I maintain my distance while offering my opinion when appropriate (this is extremely rare and has never happened under Benson).

I am not a sports guy; I am a nerd.

But I am a New Orleans nerd. New Orleans is far more important to me than any of that other nonsense, basketball included.

Take it for what it's worth.

No. Never once. Never even close.

I have turned down a number of jobs, but I have never been offered a sports job.

I have just been asked my opinion on some things, none of which were in basketball operations, so players, salary, etc.
