Anyone listen to any of it? I was just shown the songs "Murderers" and I think it's fantastic, but I haven't really given much else a listen besides the album "To Record Only Water for Ten Days" which has been interesting so far.

I think Shadows Collide with People is better. It's all damn depressing stuff though. I can't just pop it in and listen unless I'm in a very particular type of mood.

ETA: Should have a couple of posts down.

Yea a lot of it is really weird too. You can definitely tell it was at the height of his heroin use.

If you like To Record Only Water, check out Letur Lefr and PBX. Both are very electronic.

I like all of his stuff. My favorite is probably Niandre Lades, though that is a very niche album. I also am a big fan of Curtains and Shadows Collide.

The Empyrean is the most complete album, in my opinion. I consider it his masterpiece.

The guitar piece his did as a tribute a few months back was pretty special, too:

Empyrean drags a little to me. It has some great songs but I can't listen to it and enjoy it as easily as his other work. That being said, "Unreachable" is one of my favorite songs of his.

See, to me, that's a big part of the cohesion. I'm pretty sure he was trying to make a good old rock album where you sit in your living room, dim the lights, and let it engulf you.

This thread actually made me switch to The Empyrean. Unreachable is playing now.

Yeah I get that. I just really have to be in the mood to listen to it all the way through.

Your description is almost 100% the intention of how it should be listened to, according to the man himself.

As I don't really like RHCP without him, I've always assumed it was him that I liked the most.

His solo stuff is so varied and different, but also so stream of consciousness. He could have been a monster head of a improvisational jam band, even a jazz fusion one.

Some of it I like, but a lot of it is just meh.

This. It's quickly becoming overrated.

Out there? Listen to Will to Death and Inside of Emptiness. These are great rock records. Also try DC EP.

He has a little bit of everything in his catalog.

Also, breaking news, he will be releasing a new 3 song EP soon: LINK
