It's really interesting watching someone display their hatred towards different groups. I bet the bigot in you is sooo mad over gays receiving benefits that it drives you crazy.

Sorry, I support equal rights...

This was not for "equal" "fair" or "liberty" it is an attack on religion and churches.

There is not one liberty gained in the decision. There is not one liberty gained in gay marriage. Name one?

Obama says federal benefits to same sex marriage should be available everywhere, even in states where it's banned.

Can he just order the government to do this?

quote:

(CNN) – Same-sex marriages should be recognized as valid even in states where the practice is forbidden, President Barack Obama said Thursday.

Speaking the day after an historic Supreme Court ruling striking down the key portion of the federal Defense of Marriage Act, Obama said the benefits of being married should extend to same-sex couples no matter where they live. Twelve states, plus the District of Columbia, currently allow same-sex marriage, while 35 states ban it.

"If you've been married in Massachusetts and move somewhere else, you're still married," Obama said in Dakar, Senegal, in a response to a question from CNN Chief White House Correspondent Jessica Yellin. "Under federal law, you should be able to obtain the benefits of any lawfully married couple. But again I'm speaking as a president not
a lawyer."

Gay people already have an equal right to marry people of the opposite sex. What you're all about is changing the definition of marriage and then forcing others to accept it.

The term "marriage" is what the government uses to define the union of man and wife along with all the tax benefits etc. that go along with it. Marriage is something the government should not be involved but they are and that's the problem. DOMA discriminates against homosexuals that want equal protection/ rights.

We should have civil unions for "everyone" and we wouldn't have these problems. Churches could define marriage as they see fit. The problem is the government is not the church and should ensure equal rights for all citizens. I think marriage has no business in our government and especially our tax code. Still, we are stuck with the term marriage and people have certain emotions about it.

Predictable.

Why do we even have states when the Feds just override them and blackmail them?

The true end game is to end Tax Exempt status for the Church. They will demand some priest marry a Gay couple, and shite will hit the fan.

It is what it is. I doubt we make it to that point though. The country will collapse within the next 20 years anyway.

I'm Mormon. Didn't realize other groups believed differently.

We believe Christ created the Earth under the direction of the Father. (We believe they are two different individuals - literally Father and Son). That should clear that up.

So that is why I said Adam and Eve were the original Christians.

The term marriage has been around long before there was a united states government. And the reason government is involved is because marriage is also a legal contact. DOMA does not discriminate against homosexuals because they have an equal right to enter into heterosexual marriages. They can't enter into homosexual marriages cause such a thing does not exists nor should it.

Name the benefits?

DOMA specifically discriminated how?

What "equal protection/rights" exactly?

Be specific. I have yet to get one answer.

But bring up tax laws please.....

Marriage was around before the bible or Koran was written.

Liberty to be married under every state. Some states won't recognize the marriage. Then there are benefits and tax issues heterosexuals get to enjoy. How about gay adoption?

so if people do what they want they'll be less free... that's some great logic

An individual has never taken a drink of an alcoholic beverage. He is 100% free to do so or not. He chooses to and drinks regularly and develops a dependence. Is he just as "free" now?

A man gets upset and beats his wife. He goes to jail. He did what he wanted...how free is he now?

A man cheats on his wife. She leaves him and takes the kids, house, money, dogs...how free is he now - to get his original life back? fully participate in his kids life? visit his original home? have feelings not consisting of guilt or regret?

The ability to choose is a gift - but the freedom to choose can have consequences - negative consequences when we exercise our "freedom" and make the wrong choice.

could go on...

I'm not so sure this guy is smart enough to put that together honestly. He may actually believe Jesus created everything.

Jesus did create everything. He always existed with the Father and was the entity used to create the world under the title of," the word".

Colossians 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether [they be] thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness

DOMA

Section Three is the part that prevented the federal government from recognizing any marriages between gay or lesbian couples for the purpose of federal laws or programs, even if those couples are considered legally married by their home state.

The U.S. Supreme Court has struck down Section 3 of DOMA which prevented the federal government from recognizing marriages of same-sex couples, because it violated the constitution’s “equal protection” promise.

The ruling on DOMA will have major effects on families concerning a number of different federal rights which provide necessary marital benefits. Some areas that are affected include military family benefits, social security benefits, multiple areas of tax categories, hospital visitation rights, and healthcare benefits. These are just a few of the numerous marital benefits that were denied to families because of DOMA, but will now be granted to same-sex couples in legal marriages.

A list of all the benefits denied to gay couples

Why do we need DOMA?

ETA: Republicans are always telling me what they are against socially. What are they for socially? It's become a hate group in many ways.
