why is the board so much higher on him than others?

Most compare him to Lillard and Curry, I think that should speak for itself.

i don't know, there may be one. TBH, i haven't been paying much attention at all to what they've been saying the past few weeks. which is why i asked the question.

they compare all the players in the top 10 to players currently in the league. that doesn't mean they're going to be as good as those players.

e.g., hoops hype compares Zeller to LaMarcus

Coming out of a small school always has teams worried. How will they play against great talent?

Then you ask how Damion Lillard and Steph Curry fell and wonder why they weren't consensus top 3 picks in all mock drafts.

Why do you not think McCollum has a shot? Not saying you are wrong just curious. I honestly think he is the best player in this draft.

We didn't bring him in for a visit when we brought in other healthy guards. We even brought in UNHEALTHY players just to talk to them. CJ specifically said that we weren't bringing him in at all.

He's also considered a late lottery pick by virtually everyone else that I can see. There seems to be a consensus on the Top 6 players, and I throw in Burke because everyone considers him the top PG.

I would be completely shocked if he is the pick at 6.

I don't dislike CJ, by the way. I started a thread on him when the college season began comparing him to Lillard. I just don't think the Pelicans are interested at all.

Again, it is nothing against CJ. I think he can be a very good player. He has scoring talent, no doubt.

I just really do not believe the Pels are interested.

We "worked out" 3 people and 1 was an injured Len. Are we for sure taking 1 of the 3? Why does that even matter? You didn't even list MCW

This top 6 player shite is stupid. If we were picking 2 or 3, ok then I could see I saying we are taking one of those 6. But considering we are picking 6, a lot of different scenarios can play out. You have NBA Mock Draft top 6 and then you have guys Monty likes top 6.

I don't think it has to be one of the 3. But: we brought in 3 guys that WOULD work out for us and that we thought would be available at 6. The other guys he either wouldn't work out for us or we didn't need to see them workout.

Obviously McCollum will be available at 6 and he would have worked out for us if we wanted him to. And we didn't. To me, I think that says something.

As for MCW, I just don't think he's even close to a top 10 talent in the draft, let alone the pick at 6. I don't see it. Maybe the Pelicans feel differently, but my personal belief based on absolutely nothing whatsoever is that they were just doing due diligence.

Is there a consensus No. 1 prospect in this year's draft? Is there a consensus anything in this year's draft? Of course, the word "consensus" is a bit of a joke. We are a week away from the draft, and there are still major debates running internally within every front office in the league. If teams can't agree, internally, on the order of draft prospects, how can we create a "consensus" ranking? As hard as it is for NBA draftniks to believe, there is little agreement within teams, let alone between them, on draft night. This year is especially difficult. There aren't any elite players at the top of the draft, and there is enormous parity from the late lottery to the early second round. Many prospects are all over the board. I've been doing this a long time, and I've never seen so little agreement so close to the draft. The draft is an inexact science, despite concerted attempts to create analytical models that are more predictive of a player's future success. I've read through a number of those models, and they don't agree on anything either. NBA teams watch prospects play thousands of hours of games. They go to practices and camps. They hire guys from MIT to create statistical solutions. They work out players, give them psychological tests, do background checks and conduct personal interviews. And still, there is little consensus. Factor in the debate between taking the best player available versus filling team needs and the situation muddies itself further.

Same guy has Burke, MCW, and CJ in the same tier.

If we're using the "Spurs model", we may grab someone we saw and/or interviewed at the combine but gave no other indication that we'd want them, like they did with Kawhi Leonard before they traded George Hill for the pick used on him.
