good god these first 20 minutes aren't doing anything to lessen the zelalem hype. he's easily been the best player on the pitch in the second half. hasn't put a pass wrong, read the game well defensively with a couple of interceptions, very athletic, and two beautiful, beautiful through balls which should've been goals.

giroud's first touch is a clever, nonchalant finish off a baccy cross. 3-0

holy shite a ridiculous finish by giroud off another baccy cross. 4-0. both goals were super confident.

If his finishing gets even 15% better than last year he will be a 20/10 guy.

now eisfeld with a poldi-esque left footed rocket goal off. giroud cushioned header assist from a rosicky lob pass.

7-0 final. IDT tired out at the end. second half notes:

-See earlier Zelalem post. Damn. At the end, play went more through Tomas, but he had a nice pass to Tomas to set up the Eisfeld goal.

-Olsson and Eisfeld looked pretty good. their finishes were nice. pretty good in possession. talented players.

-Giroud's goals were calm, collected, and confident. The opposition wasn't great for sure, but it isn't like he doesn't get chances normally. two most confident finishes he's had in an Arsenal shirt. hope that carries into the season.

-Miquel was better at CB than LB. defensively got lost a couple of times out wide.

-Aneke was out of position a few times defensively, but held his own out there at CB. Had a nice interception. Looks a little awkward in a defensive stances, but i'm intrigued by the move. very good passer of the ball. converting to CB may be his best chance at sticking with Arsenal. i wonder if it is something they're doing or if it was an emergency exhibition thing.

told you! pretty slick move. he had a few other bits of skill. probably next in terms of impressiveness was a back heel which sent Gibbs free. he was MOTM imo. probably because he played the longest and was everywhere.

Really want to see the whole game. Watched the highlights but I'm mostly interested in seeing our positioning.

Aneke at CB would be a genius move. He has the size and athleticism to play there, and it is a position he can contribute right away. It should have happened with Jay Emmanuel Thomas, who would have been an all world CB if he would have stayed there.

I really feel this team is very close to being really good. We need depth more than anything. By virtue of the way we play, we will always create chances, so finishing is a thing everyone needs to improve upon. Higuain would be useful for that alone. If we don't get him, or anyone else, we will have to ride our injury luck a long way if we are to win anything. We are two deep everywhere but CB, DM, and ST, though we have players who can fill in at DM and ST in a pinch.

This is the first season since 2005 (I think) we have had no major departures. We need a major signing, for the sake of morale, as well as to fill some holes.

I believe they said the full match will be on demand later. you might check it out if you had time. I haven't been able to see many reserve matches, so it was nice to get a good look at the younger players.

I agree on Aneke. was just shocked it happened.hadn't heard news of him attempting that switch. he's brilliant on the ball and passing wise. tall and strong. would love it if it'd work out.

6'1ish I think, but I'm not sure it's ever been released. he is strong and held the ball up well for his age. also made good runs. not super athletic, but that isn't a death knell to his chances by any means.

Watched the game. Liked the look of the whole team. Zezalem is going to be real good in a couple of years. Don't see him breaking through for at least two though. Eisfield should be our wide right option in place of ever playing Ramsey there. Eisfield can be a useful wide player for us.

I don't know if there is much to read into Aneke at CB. Might have been moved there because we are short defenders this trip. He prob won't make it here as anything other than a CB or DM. He clearly won't be able to play in the hole so maybe it is permanent.

From Arsene: "I played Aneke there because he was the most suited to play centre back because of his size. We had a congestion in midfield, we had many midfielders and I wanted to give competition at the back."

Doesn't really elucidate.

yeah, he needs to grow physically to succeed in the PL.

he is an out and out CAM. more so than Rambo ever was. his scoring record in the U21s is very good. has quite the strike on him. I would imagine he'd get that shot if Theo and the Ox ever went down, though maybe Gnabry is above him in the pecking order there.

While, Gnabry tended to cut inside a lot, he has a really good left foot for a right-footed player. he's physically ready to contribute this year IMO, though will probably go on loan or only be used in the Capital One Cup.

I think Olsson is very good too. definitely some guys for the future in that CAM spot.

glass: miquel played pretty well at CB, had a nice cross for Olsson's goal while playing LB, but was out of position multiple times LB, which luckily, he will never play because he's our 4th string LB.
