Yeah it was mostly an outlier. Gibbs injury, the axis of Wilshere and Ramsey playing together for the first time, and some bad refereeing. We are a better team than Villa, but they did well attacking us where we were weak. They aren't a bad side by any means, and their front three is very good for a mid table side.

Was covering the LSU game in Dallas this weekend, so just now watching NLD.
Some thoughts as I've been watching:
Giroud really is having an excellent season. His back to goal play is as good as it gets in the EPL, and he's now making the killer runs. Instead of single post runs, he's starting at the back and cutting to the front, or vice versa. And his first touch, including on finishes, has always been superb.
I love the 4-2-3-1 with Santi narrow left and Gibbs providing width, and it's only going to be better with Ozil. He loves to drift to the sidelines (though, more to the right with Real, though that was probably by design), and he and Santi will be interchangable there.
Funny that Jack will be the odd man out on Arteta's return, given Rambo's run of form.
Speaking of Rambo, love his combative play lately in midfield. He's still prone to the odd give away here and there, but he usually makes up for it on the recovery, and it's usually not in a terrible place. Just watched him make two tackles in about 5 seconds to kill a Tottenham attack. Beautiful.
Per/Kosc continue to be a dynamite tandem centrally.
Fullback play is concerning, but Tottenham's wingers look sharp. I wonder how weak we will be defending on our left. We're going to ask a lot of Gibbs/Monreal. Jenkinson hasn't been on good form lately.
Theo is quietly playing very well. He and Giroud have a nice chemistry.

Well it will be interesting. Ozil is the sort of languid playmaker the modern game doesn't allow. It's a testament to how good he is that he has been so productive. His movement, in general, is akin to a central winger, moving laterally between the lines to find space, turning, and then driving play forward. His biggest asset is that he's a pretty good athlete, so when he counters he counters at speed.
Cazorla has always been a wide player and was a revelation centrally, but on the left he knows where and when to exploit space. Him moving inside as Ozil moves toward the sideline, either in the opposite or same direction, could cause havoc, both on our end and the opposition. The great thing is that Cazorla is very versatile, and he'll be able to change his play to accommodate Ozil quite easily.

I am still amazed we actually ponied up for Ozil. Wenger said that he wouldn't spend just to spend. It would be on a great player, he came through.

aesthetically, zelalem reminded me most of ozil. so glad he gets to learn from him. extremely athletic and capable of an amazing burst, but largely languid, with exceptional vision.

It really is a lopsided 4-4-2. I thought Theo tracked Rose well, but he really played on the backline. I'd hate to be a left back dealing with him.

We've basically played like this offensively since 2010, since Theo became our regular starter on the right. He's been super productive there to be honest. He's quietly become one of the best right wingers in England. His touch and technique have improved so much it's hard to believe that he once dribbled out of bounds consistently.

It's weird. We got out like this every week and teams don't seem to adjust. Hell the early noughties teams were just as lopsided, with Henry drifting toward the left and Bergkamp positioned behind the deepest opposition midfield.
This version limits Walcott's role, which puts a lot of pressure on the left side of the defense, and opens up all sorts of areas on the field.

Wilshere and Ramsey have been working real well together. They're understanding is getting a lot better. When Arteta comes back we will have so many options.

That article implores just how tactical we were on getting Ozil, and how lucky we are to be getting an enthusiastic player of his quality who has already bought into what the coach is trying to do on the field.

Question for you guys. Is Bacary Sagna no longer an automatic starter at RB? Are Gibbs/Jenkinson now first team fullbacks? I saw where he came in as a sub the other day against Spurs. Did he just come back from injury or something because surely he's a better option at RB than Jenkinson, right? Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm not a huge Arsenal fan or anything it just caught my eye when I was watching the game and sparked my curiosity. Thanks bros

I almost creamed my pants at the thought of Ozil in that lineup when the 2014 game comes out.
