Why does Russia have interest in Syria (taking Assad's side)?

Debkafile is propaganda for neocons...its "sources" are Israeli militarists who use the site to manipulate information.

I used to read them during the Second Iraqi War; after a while it became so clear that they were just making shite up that I stopped.

Honestly, we need to sit back for a while to watch Hezbollah and AQ continue their depletion of assets.
Won't happen with John Kerry delivering Arms and $$$ to the Brotherhood in Egypt.

A more repressive govt than Assad? Doubtful. Unless we abandon the more moderate factions then it's probable. Assad will fall. We're better off backing the winner.
Try being a Christian in Egypt. There are NO moderate factions in the Muslim Brotherhood.

Can they even fit 300 marines on a Udaloy 1 class destroyer?

Favorable business dealings because the government defaulted on debt to Russia. I believe Syria bought arms from Russia and they waived the remaining debt for business interest etc.. Also, their Navy uses Syria as its main port.

It has a crew of 249. Would be awfully tight with 549 folks on it.

Perhaps. Says on all the sites I've seen, that crew is 220-249. That could reduce the overall number. In any case, it doesn't debunk the article. I will concede it's biased, almost as much as American networks are. It doesn't make the story not true. The Russians have a base in Syria, and in the last yr, have sent 10 warships at once. I don't see why 2 would be cause for some to try to claim it's propaganda.

The US is doing what Israel tells them to do, i know it is hard to believe but it is a fact

There are Kurdish militias fighting the Assad regime and theyve clashed with other rebels. So you think not aiding factions like the Kurdish militias will help lessen AQ affiliated rebel groups?

Assad and Hezbollah have hurt in chance of a stable, strong government in Lebanon. They have supported and supplied insurgents killing Americans in Iraq. They have launched rockets into Israel.

You're assuming sunni radicals taking over Syria. That assumption will be more likely if Assad falls and we are absent.

I'm not arguing with you there.

thats what the sunni "aljazeera" media cliaming , in fact Syrian troops withdrew from Kurdish area and they have a deal with the kurds. Kurds are in line with Aasad despite their sunni background, hey don;t give a shite about FSA, they want their own state.

Look there is no chance for a stable government in lebanon without Hizbollah involvement. They , the shia, make up around 40 % of the population and they are allied with large majority of the Christians and the Druze. The sunni in lebanon are fricked

Propaganda is not in the "fact" of the warship, but the interpretation.

re: Russian Warships headed to Syria

quote:

Russia will honour its controversial contract to deliver S-300 air defence missile systems to Syria, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Thursday.

"We respect all our contracts and are honouring all our contractual obligations," Lavrov said in an interview with state-run Rossiya 24 TV. "As yet, the contracts are not finished, they have not been delivered in full," he added.

quote:

Lavrov renewed Russia's objections to a potential no-fly zone in Syria, which the S-300 systems would make extremely difficult to implement, and said Western plans to arm the opposition would see most weapons fall into the hands of Jabhat al-Nusra, an al-Qaeda affiliate that is believed to be among the most effective rebel factions.

More Israeli propaganda, this time from the CDC (Canadian Press)
