"Worst thing to ever happen to basketball"

Commissioner Stern basically agreed, but I have no idea what the issue is with "traveling teams"

All they do is play games and don't work on the fundamentals that you can learn with extensive practice. Not to mention the many scummy AAU coaches that essentially whore out their players.

Usually me first, ISO offenses that focus more on flash and less on fundamentals. Kids get recruited to teams and they are ripe with handlers that are trying to get paid off the backs of the kids. Etc., etc.

ah, thank you

So the coaching is the problem, along with high level pressure to travel and win games

Teaches kids to be "Me-First" ISO ballers that just want to be "stars" and have no concept of fundamental or teams.

And the coaches and handlers are complete scumbags.

you cant even call most of the coaches.. they are more like entrepreneurs.. 'coaching' AAU is just a way for them to scam cash from parents and recruiters

Auburn isn't getting their "fair share" of guys from AAU ball. That's probably why.

Like others have said, it's all about anointing kids as great and making them me first "stars" at way too young of an age. They're all trying to get recruited so they don't play team ball, just try to shine as individuals.

Basically the concept works great for baseball bc although it's a team sport, it's basically a game consisting of 9 guys winning individual battles for the good of the team. Basketball played the right way should be 5 guys working as one unit, not trying to do things on their own

maybe the problem is that kids don't think it counts like HS or college ball?
