I thought about this last night with a minute left in the game, thinking what a difference the final :58 seconds would possibly make historically.

If Allen does not make that shot, the legacy of this version of the Heat NEVER recovers IMO. Lebron had the 2 late turnovers that almost (and probably should have) gave the game away. The rest of his 4th quarter, game, and season would have been completely cast aside and all we would hear for the next year would be LeChoke, etc.

Amazing how much a couple of plays change everything.

quote:

The next three days will define these three years for the Miami Heat.

If the Heat are able to hold off the San Antonio Spurs in Games 6 and 7, they will hit a legacy jackpot. They will be back-to-back champions, which is just about the greatest response to criticism known to man. LeBron James or Dwyane Wade probably will be holding a second Finals MVP trophy. They will have become the first team ever to beat the Spurs in the Finals. They will be legitimately talking about establishing a dynasty. It’ll be magazine covers, cereal boxes, months of coronation and years of being honored.

If the Spurs ply another win in Miami, though, talk about a flipping of the script. James will be 1-3 in Finals in his career, a record that will not allow much wiggle room for nuance in the history books. The Heat will have lost it all two of three years together, both times seeing another team celebrate on their home floor and both times wasting the home-court advantage. Tim Duncan will be 5-0 in the Finals, probably cementing his position as one of the five greatest players ever. And he’d be 2-0 against James, something he’d quietly hold over him for the rest of their lives.

There’d be no Heat dynasty to speak of, but instead the clock on the pending 2014 free agency of James, Wade and Chris Bosh will begin in earnest and probably not relent for 12 months. The summer will become a miserable slog for them. James may never log on to Twitter again.

Hasn't changed shite yet. If the Heat lose game 7, everyone will forget about game 6 and it will be open season on Lebron again.

If you can sit here and legitimately say with a straight face that you think the Spurs will win Game 7, all the power to you.

If the plays had not gone the Heat's way it would be a done deal and the script written. Those plays changed that.

Now, a similar scipt MAY be written but it is doubtful.

And this is wrong. That Game 6 will be remembered. And if the Heat win Game 7, it will be Game 6, NOT Game 7 that is ultimately remembered.

I think this could be it for the big 3. And btw it isn't the big 3. But I think there will be too many solid teams for them to be anywhere close to a lock next year. In my opinion they need to make a big move. If not its gonna be Lebron being super man most playoff games if they want to win.

But yeah crazy how the script flipped after the 4th and OT.

I don't see why everyone is saying the Spurs are done. I'm not saying they win. I'd say it's a 50/50 proposition. Heat haven't been able to win back to back games in like a month and the Spurs have played well up to this point.

Why is it that when the Spurs went up 3-2 it was all over and Miami wouldn't be able to win back to back games. But now that Miami won the first one, the Spurs shouldn't even bother showing up on thursday?

You actually think if the Heat lose this series people are going to say "the Heat lost, but damn that game 6 was good"? Hell, no. Lebron and the Heat will be the biggest chokers ever in most people's eyes. Sucks, but that is the way it is.

Who the hell said the series was over when the Spurs went up 3-2?

Everyone picked the Heat in Game 6.

But the way the Spurs gave away Game 6, I don't think theres a chance in hell they win Game 7.

Lebron's legacy is the bigger issue IMO. No one will really care about the big 3 in the long run but Lebron is still in the hunt for goat with another finals victory tomorrow.

more specifically, a loss tomorrow ends any discussion of Lebron and the GOAT title.

Scenario 1: Spurs win Game 7. Heat will still get bashed, but the memorable Game 6 along with a loss in a 7 game series in the finals and the critisism will not be as epic as a loss in Game 6 with LeBron turning it over twice in the final minute.

Scenario 2: Heat win Game 7. Game 6 goes down as the biggest in franchise history, the "Big 3" are really validated.

And I think Scenario 2 is about 70-75% likely, so I think that Allen 3 turns out to be of historical importance to this Heat team/franchise.

absolutely. Say what you want about LBJ/MJ and who is better but a loss in this series ends that debate.

I wonder how mad everyone would get if he pulled a 1998 MJ style push off to win the game.

It won't make any difference if the Heat lose the series in 6 or 7 games. If they lose the criticism will be merciless.
