I've posted this in a few places with no responses. maybe im missing something. after lebron took the first 3, why would SA even go rebound? why not stay on the arc and guard the shooters? leaving to rebound gives a shooter that split second that you need to get a shot off. if they would just stay on them, i dont see how miami could get a quality shot.

Its natural basketball instincts...

You're not just gonna sit there and let the other team have a free rebound.

That wasn't a "quality shot." He was pretty well defended.

Ray took a step back for separation and had a lightening quick release.

Heat of the moment. Miami focused; SA didn't.

Because if you secure that rebound like you should the game is basically over?

that's what i chalked it up as, but shite, if you're faceguarding the shooters, they wont be catching a pass, much less getting a good shot off

When bosh grabbed the board, they should have tackled him

If they let Miami get the rebound with no defense, they get a layup with probably 6 seconds left. That's more than enough to foul and get the ball back

Not having Tim Duncan on the floor helped Miami alot.

Your question should be much simpler; why didn't they just foul?

Or you can ask why Pop had Duncan on the bench instead of him grabbing another rebound to end the game. Either way, Ray doing what he does best.

Well if they get the rebound the game is over and all of a sudden your retro analysis looks stupid

And even with a guy like Allen the 3 is a low percentage shot. And it was only to tie the game, not win it.

I don't think they played it wrong. Seems like you are over thinking the strategy.

Because they play basketball and when the ball comes off the rim you rebound it.
