How can I play them on PC without shady bit torrents and things? We are willing to pay money, like $10 or something, for legitimacy. I see them for sale on Amazon where you can use them on newer gaming systems, but not just to play on your PC, unable to find. I think that's weird.
My wife found a place you can play Zelda online, and had about 20 hours into it, able to save games etc, but if you close out and log back in, game erased.
How can I buy one of those games and just play on PC? Particularly Zelda?

Download emulators and rooms
Just download a good rated snes or n64 torrent with games. They are safe and work

here is what I put in your OT thread
Nintendo does not sell their games on anything they didn't make.
You can only legally play roms if you own the games and even then you technically have to rip the rom yourself though odds are very low you will ever get popped for NES roms.
If you want to go the legal route you can still buy these games for $5 a pop on the Wii, WiiU, and 3DS through their online stores.
If you want to do it as cheaply as possible you should just buy a used Wii and buy the games through their Wii Shop Channel before Nintendo shuts it down to shift focus to the WiiU.
Otherwise getting a WiiU or a 3DS and buying them through the shop channels is the only legal way to get those games save for finding an old NES on EBay.

So what is a Rom and I think I know what an emulator is?
Posted on 6/18/13 at 8:24 pm to deeprig9
An emulator is a virtual platform of a particular console.
Example: ZSNES emulator emulates an SNES environment on the PC.
A ROM is the actual game file that was extracted from the cartridge.
So if you ran Link to the Past (Zelda SNES game) ROM in ZSNES, you're going on your PC.

basically, a rom is the code from the game.
an emulator "emulates" the hardware the game originally played on.
you use the emulator to play the games.
nearly every gaming system has been emulated though the newer more power gaming systems are much harder to do and require more powerful computers to do it. Most of the ones from the N64 on up are pretty buggy.
Also, the less popular the system was during its lifespan, the less likely people have put in the time to properly debug the emulators. So you can find them for something like the Intellivision but its possible it won't work very well.
But the best emulators for NES, SNES, and Sega Genesis are generally pretty good. Even then, not every game can be properly emulated. Most can though.
I use NEStopia for NES games and SNES9X for Super Nintendo games. For Sega Genesis I use Genesis Plus. there may or may not be better emulators out there but these work fine for me. Be warned, emulators are not always the most intuitive things to use. Some are simple and have a clean, easy to navigate interface while some were made by people who have no idea what ease of use means.

I actually didn't get it directly from their page. I got it from this guy so DL the version he has up. I'm really not that computer savvy so I need stuff spoonfed to me.

also, he gives a rundown on how to set it up.
