I've caught a few small mouth out of Bayou Desiard. I think what we call a jack fish is a pike up north. But I could be wrong about that...

Honestly the strangest thing personally i could ever say is that i swear i caught a Guadalupe bass on Toledo Bend a couple years ago.

I cant confirm this though.

Chain pickerel is a pike but that is all there is here. Some lakes over here have Walleye but no one ever catches any, lake Texoma has Smallmouths. Lakes in Arkie have all of them. Except Northen and Muskies.

Not smallmouth. Possibly kentuckies, but I have no idea if Desiard has those.

We've caught Kentucky's out of Desaird and Ouachita River. I was a kid when caught the "smallmouths". At least that what my uncle said they were.

Lots of oldtimers call kentuckies smallmouths. My dad was one.

I would not be surprised if some northern species ended up across our line in winter in the Mississippi.

Louisiana gets plenty chain pickerel

and sauger

but there is no recorded occurrence of true smallmouth bass in Louisiana. The closest you would find them is probably central AR in the Little Missouri around Lake Greeson.

Here's a link to a really cool interactive map with the native range and reported sitings of the smallmouth bass:

That was likely the case of the smallies we caught. But my uncle was a fishy dude. He had a big explanation of how they got into Desiard by coming down the Ouachita from Lake Ouachita in Hot Springs. It was probably Kentucky's
