Watching it again after some years...

Idk...Paul Dano was meh. Imagine Ryan Gosling or JGL in that role (yea I'm sorta baiting but still)

It will more like Daniel Day Lewis was "too good" in his role. Where he just completely outshines the rest of it.

I definitely think No Country for Old Men was the right choice for Best Picture that year.

Don get me wrong I still like the movie..

But I like PTA's earlier movies more.

Great performance in an otherwise dumb movie, IMO.

great movie

Dano did really well considering he had to take on that role at the last minute.
quote:

In an interview on the National Public Radio program "Fresh Air with Terry Gross," Paul Dano told Gross that he had originally been cast in the much smaller role of Paul Sunday, Eli's brother, and another actor had been cast as Eli. However, after Dano had already started filming his one scene as Paul Sunday, Paul Thomas Anderson decided to replace the actor playing Eli. Anderson then asked Dano to play Eli Sunday (a much bigger role) as well as Paul Sunday, and they decided to change the film to make the brothers identical twins. Anderson asked Dano to play Eli on a Thursday, and filming for the role began four days later, on the next Monday. Daniel Day-Lewis, by contrast, had a whole year to prepare to play Daniel Plainview.

DDL's performance makes TWBB worth watching, but NCFOM is easily a better movie IMO.

Great movie and score. Plainview's ambition is what I strive for.

It is a great movie that includes an all-time great performance.

I disagree completely.

Most years, No Country would be a runaway Best Picture winner. But I think There Will Be Blood should have won the award that year. I consider There Will Be Blood the best movie of the 2000s (better even than two of my other favorites, The Departed and Children of Men).

As much as I love all of PTA's movies, TWBB is by far the best IMO.

TWBB had a lot of cool shite in it, but I didn't really dig watching it, was ready for it to be over.

I don't really like Paul Dano as am actor. There's something very over the top/unnatural about the way he freaks out.

Paul Dano has the most punchable face in Hollywood, which was perfect for this role.

Great performance & great movie.

I remember seeing that trailer for the first time in the theater and being just floored by Jonny greenwood's music and Daniel day lewis.
