Does the Fact that Only 9 Teams Have Won in 30 Years Help or Hurt the NBA?

The NBA is by far the worst when it comes to parity. Every year, 20/30 teams know they have no shot of winning which makes it hard to be a fan of those teams. Does the NBA need to implement rules like the NFL when it comes to free agency to level the field? The lottery is supposed to even things up but the draft hasn't been strong since the early aughts which causes teams to draft projects who only amount to something when their contract with the original team is done (see Jermaine O'Neal). What can be done to help this besides letting Stern retire?

Hurt. Its why the NBA is far, far worse than the MLB or the NFL.

I don't know how you can say it is a good thing.

I think there are too many teams in the NBA anyways. I say they get rid of about 4 of them.

All they would have to do is go to a hard cap. Get rid of all those stupid exceptions.

The fact that the NBA pretty much openly admits to pushing these darling teams of theirs is the worst part.

I thought he signed with Indiana after his rookie contract with Portland expired. The 9 teams are: Celtics, Lakers, Spurs, Pistons, Rockets, Heat, Bulls, Mavs, Sixers. The last two are the only ones who didn't win multiple times in that span. Speaking of which, in a league where it is so hard to win, how are these teams able to continue to win multiple titles besides being large markets (save the Spurs). I laugh at fans of New Orleans, Milwaukee, etc. who actually think their young nucleus will win. Look at the history books. Odds are greatly stacked against you.

According to the MSB, it really should be 8 because Jordan gifted those Titles to the Rockets by not playing, which makes the scenario even worse.

If Stern had his way, no way in hell would Dallas and Mark Cuban have one making it 7.

How does that number compare to the NFL? Steelers, Patriots, Giants, Cowboys, and 49ers all have multiple titles during that span.

Eta: Packers and Broncos too.

It probably helps...

Those teams you mentioned most people want to see in the Finals b/c those teams you mentioned get the Star power.

...and those teams you mentioned have massive national fanbases (well some of them) -

Nobody outside of New Orleans wants to see that team play the Denver Nuggets for the title.

NBA's entire history has been about a few teams...from the beginning. We're conditioned...this is the product, it's how it is built...nothing recently has changed that. You either like it or you don't like the NBA.

Do people actually think getting rid of 4 teams will make the NBA more competitive and/or better?
