Used to love skipping .22 bullets like a rock across a flat-calm lake when I was a kid.
Was fun trying to hit birds from far off. Never got one, but came really close several times!

Great idea. I'm gonna try that with a beer can next time I'm at the pond

The tracer element often separates from the rest of the bullet after it strikes something (sometimes in mid-air). Seen it plenty with 7.62mm and I can only imagine how fragile .22LR tracer rounds are.

Understand what you are saying, but that doesn't mean the projectiles didn't ricochet also.
