Chris Jackson, the basketball player...Incredible skills and amazing to watch. He was an entertainer and was paid well for it. (Do not put him in "legend" status however)

M. Abdul Rauf, the person...don't like him.

If Chris Jackson were a white guy those giving everyone a thumbs down would hate him...

That's not the problem to me. It's his refusal to stand for the national anthem.

And I too disliked that at the time. But I never felt so strongly about his decision to do that that I wanted to toss the baby out with the bathwater.

My take on that at the time was basically, "Huh...kind of a dick move. Eh..."

The hate lobbed this guy's way is in no way equal to whatever transgressions people want to lay at his feet. As Tiger in NY just said, many people act as if he was the fricking mastermind behind 9-11.

All I remember about Abdul rauf was not standing for the national anthem or something. Chris Jackson was a hell of a player at LSU. One of my favorite players to watch all time growing up.

That's what pretty much everyone south of Mason-Dixon line did once. None of them went back to their country because of this darn constitution!

Which should not be surprising, considering the guy was INCREDIBLY religious back when he was at LSU. Of course, back then, he was the "right" religion and no one gave a frick about his fanaticism. From my perspective, he simply chose one silly belief system over another silly belief system.

That is easy for you to say living in a country based on his former "silly belief system". Would you express your opinion about his present "silly belief system" in a country ruled by his present "belief system".

Then we can see if your "perspective" is different.

You can respect him if you want--your decision. I simply choose not to. I guess I just have a different feeling about someone who turns his back on this great country.

He has philosophical disagreements with the US government and societal structure. Wow, groundbreaking stuff there.

BURN HIM AT THE STAKE

But really, I love all the "christians" in here that are willing to cast this guy out.

I am what I call a "closet Christian" and I can see how an agnostic person can say this. A silly Christian religion that believes in love and grace has no comparison to a silly Muslim belief of "kill the infidels" that don't believe in Allah. To each his own.

I'm still a big fan of Chris Jackson. He was a great Tiger.

I grew up idolizing #35. There wasn't a kid on my block that didn't form his lips like an O right before the release point of a shot, a la Chris.

If you were a true LSU fan, you wouldn't worry about his religious beliefs and focus on the two great years he gave the Tigers. If you wouldn't hang out with him, that's fine, but why hate one of the best Tigers ever to don the purple and gold?

Why should "liberals" be pleased with Jackson becoming/ being a Muslim?
How old are you?

Why should "Christians" hate another human being? What happened to turn the other cheek, love thy neighbor, God is love, redemption, etc?

I'm no fan of people not respecting the flag or anthem, but what Chris Jackson did is pretty low on the scale of things I would hate someone for. I save my hatred for child molesters, rapists, and murderers. Sad that people probably think Ray Lewis and Pacman Jones are better Americans than this guy.than

So how many of you here crucifying him for "turning is back on American" talk crap about our President? You are no different. I know him, or knew him from when he was at LSU and disagree with his stance and beliefs. But he has the right to do what he wants and not get treated like a terrorist. Just like you all have a choice, but it isn't made public. Some of you here I would bet don't believe in Jesus Christ or don't want a black President. But those are your choices and no one is going to tell you that you should not be in America because of those things.

Again, he committed no crimes and harmed no one. Like him or not, he was a legend at LSU! After Pistol and Shaq, he was the next best player ever.
