Mark Prior? He made it to the big leagues obviously but injury derailed any extended dominance.

Ryan Anderson, Seattle Mariners

quote:

After attending Divine Child High School, Anderson was drafted in the first round by the Mariners and was listed as the top prospect by Baseball America every year from 1998 to 2002, and the top prospect in the Pacific Coast League in 2000.[1] At 6'10, Anderson drew frequent comparisons to former Mariners pitcher Randy Johnson due to similarities in their height and pitching style, and earned Anderson the nickname "The Little Unit," a play on Johnson's nickname "The Big Unit."[2]

Matt Anderson
Ryan Perry (it's still early, but the Tigs got rid of him for a reason)

Matt Anderson from Rice with his 100 mph fastball.

JD Drew. Acted like a spoiled brat when he got drafted, made contract demands so ridiculous that they angered MLB players, and never lived up to his own self-image.

Just read up his bio, I forgot he went #1 overall too in 1998

Including this beauty

quote:

In May 2002, Anderson tore a muscle in the armpit of his throwing arm while throwing a bullpen session.[1] Earlier the same day he had participated in a Tigers-sponsored fan octopus-throwing contest along with Jeff Weaver, leading to the perception (though disputed by Anderson) that he'd torn the muscle in hopes of winning Detroit Red Wings playoff tickets.[2] After returning from the injury, he was unable to hit 90 mph on his fastball in his remaining days in Detroit, after regularly topping 100 mph on the radar gun, including a high mark of 103 mph twice.[3]

Does Alex Gordon of KC count? He was suppose to be their next big franchise guy but hasn't done squat.

Didn't Matt Anderson have some sort of freak injury? Looking back on it, it seems silly to draft a reliever with the top pick in the draft anyway, even if he threw 100.

I just posted a second ago, but yeah, I just read up on it and I couldn't help but .

Yeah, the Tigs really had some shite draft picks back in the day (although some of the picks of the 2000s haven't worked out, either)

at some of these answers. Pat Burrell, JD Drew, Mark Prior do you have to be a Hall of Famer to "live up to the hype"?
