If you are just getting into John Prine, I would suggest Great Days. It's a double album anthology that does a pretty good job of spanning is career.

as i did to a friend yesterday, i recommend any john prine fans listen to kurt vile if you'd like something current that's along the same lines.. he even mentioned prine as one of his favorites in a recent interview for NME

Sweet Revenge as previously mentioned is the perfect place to start.

Honestly have only heard of John Prine mentioned here and referred to in an Everclear song.
Give me a song title to google, itunes, youtube.
What is his greatest song? His cliche' song? What is John Prine's "Stairway to Heaven"?

Here is video of him from when I saw him at Red Rocks in 2009 with Levon Helm...needless to say one of the best concerts I've ever seen.

His best known songs are probably Sam Stone and Angel from Montgomery but he's done a ton of great songs. One of the top 2 or three modern song writers IMO.

Thanks for all the feedback. I've been listening to sweet revenge & his self-titled all day long. It's great.
