Most offshore anglers need state-issued permits

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries sent out a press release last week reminding offshore anglers that they need to first acquire a free permit before harvesting billfish, swordfish, amberjack, grouper, snapper (except mangroves), hinds and any type of tuna.

"As Louisiana continues to make the case for regional management and the extension of Louisiana's red snapper season, it is more important now than ever that anglers provide LDWF biologists with this critical data that will only strengthen our fight," the release said.

Anglers may obtain the permit by clicking here.

Additionally, anglers who land yellowfin tuna must report that catch prior to offloading the catch. Anglers may submit harvest reports via the website, an iPhone or Android application or by calling the toll-free reporting line at 877-792-3440.

For red snapper you need a landing permit. We got stopped a couple of weeks ago and they wanted to see it.

I filled out the form yesterday but the printable page wasn't very printer friendly so i just copied and pasted the info to a work document. This "FREE" permit is total bullshite. Just another angle to write tickets IMO.
