June 1st&2nd.

Anyone been to this? What's the low-down? Is it worth anything other than walking over and getting a dozen charbroiled?

I found my dinner.

June is not the month I would have an oyster fest.

That is the perception they are trying to eliminate by having this festival in June. Oysters used to only be good during oyster season, but now with modern refrigeration they are fine year round. They purposely have the festival outside oyster season to try to prove that point.

I find this a bit incomplete and slanted....oysters decline in texture/quality as the water warms and they begin to spawn, becoming spongy/milky. Also, oysters harvested in warmer months are more likely to harbor vibrio vulnificus. So, despite "modern refrigeration", I'm not eating raw oysters in the summer months.

I went yesterday. Had Oysters almandine from Borgne which were quite nice, I then had a shrimp and oyster spring roll from Arnauds which was good, but not what I expected.. I then had smoked fried oysters from Grand Isle which were mind blowingly good, but the best was a Key lime tart from Haydel's. it help to cool me off along with several Abitas. All in all, I like this festival. We go every year. The music line up is getting better too. More big name acts.

Death in some cases, mom was the state health director when the first outbreaks started occuring in the mid 80s, and it was her dept that would shut down certain contaminated waters.

Yep, there is increased health risk in the hotter months and, frankly, the oysters are not as good .

As said above, the risk isn't any longer spoilage, it's in the oyster beds themselves.

VV even in the worst months, is not a common issue

If you want to be safe, feel free to avoid but the percentage of people experiencing issues is so low that I'd venture your about as likely to get sick eating any number of foods now that tech in the industry and regulation have improved
