Well I just got finished with S1E1 of The Wire

I'm finally getting around to watching this series. I thought it was going to be slow, but half way through this episode, I was hooked.
I wonder if it would be better to space out the episodes a bit or just start watching the shite out of them, one after another.

I tried to space it out and ended up just marathon watching the first two seasons.

You should really like it then. I was never able to watch more than an episode at a time. Felt like I had to watch because of how great everyone says it is. I enjoyed a lot about the show but have stopped at the start of season 3 twice now.

This.
Good for you (OP) that it only took half an episode to get hooked. Sometimes it takes longer for others. I liked it from the first episode, but it took longer to hook me completely. And once I did, I rifled through the rest of the season. Then took a break (had other shite going on) and then did the same thing with season two. Then took another break and rifled through the last 4 seasons in like a month. It's a very addictive show once you get it going.

The kids are better than the docks IMO.

Watch the shite out of them. Then watch the shite out of them again because there is nothing better on TV.
ETA: I was expecting a "I've watched the first episode. When can I expect to be hooked?" thread.

Episode 1 did nothing for me. Now the shield episode 1? Talk about hooked.

If you want to savor it, limit it to 3 or 4 episodes per week. However, much like the Sopranos, it is easy to get into "just one more episode" mode.

It's almost impossible to watch just one, especially when you get into the meat of each season. I watched all five seasons in a few weeks.
The main thing I appreciate about The Wire is the absurd amount of detailed characters. There's probably 50+ characters throughout the five seasons that individually have enough depth and personality to build an episode around. It really is an incredible show.
ETA: Obligatory season ranking:
3
4
1
2
5

Yeah, we're still talking about it all these years later.
Another great first episode (although the series was much more inconsistent in pace and tone) was Rescue Me.
Speaking of The Shield/The Wire - the pilots were directed by the same guy - Clark Johnson - who also played the stand-up, ethical editor during Season 5 of The Wire.

I think so too, but I actually enjoyed Season 2 (I know it gets knocked a lot). If it's as low on everyone's rankings as everyone is saying I can't wait until I get into Season 3 and beyond.
