Dude looks like a future star even though its too early to tell. Slick southpaw with reach, power and speed. Add in the fact that he's sparring with Mayweather and Broner(not even gonna talk about the rumors). Got the same feeling about this guy that I had about Canelo and Andre Ward early on.

I generally keep up with everything boxing. I had never heard of this guy. Just looked him up - only 5 fights.

Olympics last year and a lot of buzz about his sparring sessions this year with Mayweather.

Interesting. That can sometimes speak volumes.

(1)

Willie Pastrano was trained by Angelo Dundee, who was based in Louisville. In 1958 this kid name Cassius Clay calls up Dundee and wants to see if Pastrano will spar with him. Clay was just 16 years old but had already won several golden gloves competitions and would tell anybody who would listen that he was gonna win the olympics in 1960 (he did). Clay was persistent and eventually Dundee let him come by and do some work with Pastrano, who at this point was an established light heavyweight and a top contender for the title.

Clay handled him in sparring.

Dundee kept shouting at Pastrano to stop messing around. Afterwards he asks him if he was tired or hurt. Pastrano tells responds: no, that kid is a good looking fighter.

Dundee let Clay stick around the gym.

(2)

Larry Holmes was Ali's sparring partner for his fight against Foreman (and maybe others...not sure) in Zaire in '74. Norman Mailer, who wrote a book about that fight (called "The Fight"), says that Holmes very much held his own during sparring and was sometimes even handling him.

Just pulled up a few clips.

1. Looks like a promising fighter.
2. Excellent jab
2a. Super quick with it
2b. Very active with it
2c. Can hook off it.
3. Maybe doesn't throw the straight left as much as he could. He appears to be able to throw it with power.
4. Quick feet
5. But doesn't move just for the sake of it.

Will keep an eye out for him.

The rumor is that he dropped Broner like third period French.

Yeah that's what's being said even though Spence said in an interview it wasnt true. Just really impressed with this kid, he slipped a punch and landed one of the most beautiful left uppercuts to the body, that I have ever seen, in his last fight. Actually made me jump out my seat watching the slo-mo replay.

Spence works out with him and isn't yet an established fighter, so he isn't try to make any enemies in the fight game. So I totally understand why he would deny it or downplay it.

I believe it happened. And I'm not sure why people are so surprised. Spence is the bigger man. Broner is moving up two weight classes to fight welterweight. Spence fought welterweight as an amateur and is probably a natural middleweight.

We all know the story of how Quincy Taylor knocked out Ray Leonard when he was training to fight Hagler. It can happen.
