re: Getting married today

Right before you say "i do", ask her what she is cooking tonight. That answer should determine whether you say I do or not.

We have three. We have a joint account that is for household expenses and we each have our own account for personal expenses (medical, car, clothing) and discretionary spending.

But then, we're weird.

Medical expenses aren't for the joint account?

"Sorry dear, you don't have enough to cover that procedure. You were a great first wife."

Welcome to hell.

ETA: don't ever put large amounts of your money in the joint account

Thursday: Engagement party for immediate family and the wedding party who are able to make it.

I have never heard of that before. Engagement party is typically around the time the couple gets engaged in my experience.

Maybe rehearsal dinner on Thursday night, so the wedding party isn't hungover for wedding on Saturday.

re: Getting married today

Here's some advice in a little story.

I got a new car my sophomore year in college. By my senior year I put 90,000 miles on that car. I drove everywhere those three years. After I graduated, I went to trade the car in. The saleman couldn't give me full trade value because of the mileage. He said that I'm supposed to have 12k miles a year or 36k total. I told him it was impossible for ANYONE to drive 12k miles a year. Not even old people drive 12k miles a yeaar. We argued for a while and I left.

Fast forward 10 years. I've now been married for 6 years. Last week I looked on my odometer and I noticed that I drove 12k miles last year. After 10 years, I finally figured out who drives 12k miles a year: MARRIED PEOPLE. You go to work, you go to Wal-Mart, and you go home. That's all you do. My advice would be to go out to dinner every once in a while between Wal-Mart and home.

We split up our bills. She has hers and I have mine. We've done this for 20 years. Never fought over money even once.

re: Getting married today

My dad's side of the family all had joint accts. My mom's have separate. I got most of my financial personality from my dad. So joint it is. Plus my dad's side has less divorces and more money. Seems like a good example
