and make an amphitheater/park area there rather than make room for more parking.

it sounds nicer to have a park than a parking lot, but why? We have Discovery Green Downtown and Hermann Park that both have ampitheaters, I don't see why people would pass those and go out to Relaint, its not that great of an area and doesn't give you the scenic views like DT or the space like Hermann. Take where home plate is or soemthing and have a building to commorate the Dome and use the rest for parking.

Astrodome to be demolished or renovated

So 14 years after the Astros moved out, weve not really gotten anywhere. They've been talking about renovating or demolishing for years. It needs to be demolished. Its gotten in such bad shape.

And Ala, the city still owes money on it for the renovation they did to keep the Oilers there (Thanks Bud!). They put in quite a few more seats for football purposes and financed that. The city still owes about $30 million.

definitely needs to be demolished, that would be the only solution I think...

The rodeo didn't leave until 2003 and still had events until 2005 when Katrina evacuees came to town.

Sounds like something you would hear about in Louisiana not Texas.

Build a damn parking garage.

My dad went to one of the very first Astrodome games. SRO crowd, Sandy Koufax vs Robin Roberts.

Just brings back memories as a kid of going to Oiler games, watching the giant bull on the giant scoreboard and then breaking out into "Houston has the Oilers, the greatest football team, we take the ball from goal to goal like no one's ever seen. We're in the air and on the ground, always in control, and when you say the Oilers, you're talkin Superbowl cuz we're the Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers #1."

When they used to have The Hideout in there after the rodeo...that was awesome.

I stayed at the hotel across from Reliant Center while working in Htown for a few weeks, back when Reliant was just built..

I was in awe at the great AstroDome of my youth, now just an tired lil tin can in contrast to the new megastadium across the lot.
