I wish he wasn't retiring. I would be interested to see how long he could keep this production up. You know you're a beast when you retire at such an old age with likely a sub 2.00 ERA

Saves are a near worthless statistic. Closers are the most coddled, overrated athletes in pro sports...
Unless that closer is Mo Rivera, who is the greatest postseason pitcher of all time. And if all closers were as valuable as Rivera, then closers wouldn't be overrated. He truly is unique.

Rivera started pitching in the postseason in 1997. The Yankees made the playoffs just about every season and made all those World Series runs.

That's the key. I remember when people were jizzing over Papelbon "being the next Mo". There is no other. Nobody is as consistent or dominant. A few will pop up here and there and they might kick arse and take names for a season or two but they always fall off soon after.

Since 2005 he leads all closers in 1+ inning saves and as of 2009 he had 110 2 inning saves in his career

Let's put it like this. I think the only other great pure one-inning closer is Trevor Hoffman. And he's not even on the same planet as Mo.

Here's a guy who made John Wetteland, another one of the greatest closers of all time, expendable immediately after Wetteland recorded a save in all four of the Yankees' WS wins in 1996.

Im so thankful i got to see him pitch in person probably over 20 times. I'd love it if jeter retired this year too and they went into the hall together. I'd be there for sure for the induction.

Pettite, Jeter, and Mo all go out this year.... Would be fitting those 3 to go out together even though Posada isn't on team to catch final pitch from Mo/Andy
