WW2 has overshadowed WW1 as far as movies, but what are some of your favorites?

I got:

The Blue Max
War Horse
Paths of Glory
Gallipoli

A favorite action-adventure of mine is The Dawn Patrol, set in an RAF outfit during WWI. This was actually filmed twice -- I prefer the remake with Errol Flynn and David Niven.

After you've watched a bunch of WWI films, see if you can find The Last Flight.

It's a variation on Hemingway's Sun Also Rises (which would not be filmed until 1957), concerning aimless WWI vets who wander around Europe getting drunk. They even go to the bullfights, just like in SAR. It's the most notable portrait of the "Lost Generation" made by the generation itself.

My favorite scene has the man and woman strolling through Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris, final resting place of Balzac and Wilde, now best known as the home of Jim Morrison (RIP Ray).

The Lost Battalion is a good, fairly recent film - albeit made-for-television.

Rick "don't call me Ricky" Shroder really gave a good performance.

I like that one and it has a good WW1 segment, but would you really consider it centered around WW1 subject matter wise?

Nobody has mentioned Lawrence of Arabia yet.

ETA: and Dr Zhivago is in part a WWI movie.

ETA2: add Wings, and The Big Parade

Yeah - that's because people don't think of it that way. But you're right - probably the most acclaimed film covering the Great War.

The Fighting 69th was a good movie.

Not a movie, but the "Yellow" episode from "Tales from the Crypt" was good.

I really liked Flyboys. I'm a sucker for WW1 and WW2 fighter planes.
