Quincy Pondexter

He's looking pretty good for Memphis, isn't he? Remember when many of you on this board were ready to move on because he didn't show you enough in his rookie year? Just a reminder for those of you ready to give up on some of this year's rookies. Not showing enough in year 1 doesn't tell you much.

yep. i've been watching the guy in the playoffs. pretty solid, imo.

Dell made a huge mistake. If he didn't let QPon go, we'd be in the playoffs right now

meh! q is doing ok. and no better than ok! he offers nothing outside of the occasional three. too many to's. i'ld take aminu's defense, shot blocking, hustle man play, and transition play over pondexter. .....all day every day

I'm not saying otherwise. He's doing exactly what he was drafted to do, being a solid backup SF. But many questioned if he could live up to that after an unremarkable rookie season.

Oh, that's not what this thread was about? Oops
Should have known that when it wasn't started by Weebie or Grandebeli

David West had a terrible rookie season.
In this constant hype media/internet age, if a player isn't All-World at 19 years old in a rookie year, he's a "bust".
It is ludicrous.
Most players should be given at least 3 years to develop before you say anything definitive about them, especially the players that didn't play 3-4 years of college ball.

It's not that absurd of a statement. Both of them are role players that fit needs. Aminu provides things that Q-Pon doesn't and vice versa. To act like either of them is significantly better than the other is kind of silly.
Pondexter is 2.5 years older than Aminu, as well, so he should be more consistent.

Seeing him play like that gives me even more hope for Rivers

right on with all of it. they fit needs. i choose aminu, the 6-9 sf over the q, the 6-6 sf cause he does more for the sf position. we know aminu's jump shooting is the ugly duckling. i just think he offers more than what q is capable of.

You mean like...any offense at all besides the occasional alley oop? I like Aminu, but if he had anything resembling a 3pt shot, he'd be invaluable. But he doesn't. So he's just a decent, servicable player.
At the least, it's what and what between him and Q-Pon.

I don't think he's disputing that at all.

Agreed. Kobe only started 7 games his first two years in the NBA (and played 1,103 minutes). He also had the lowest shooting percentage of his career with .417 percent his first year and .428 his second year. His first season he had 539 points, 91 assists, 49 steals, 23 blocks and 112 turnovers.
Nobody wants to give Rivers a break, but he played in 10 less games but had 26 starts (and played 1,418 minutes) Shot .372 percentage. He had 377 points, 127 assists, 26 steals, 9 blocks and 74 turnovers. And he was getting better until he got hurt.
Now I'm not saying Austin will be Kobe Bryant, but people should let these young guys develop before we start throwning them under the bus.

So is Arthur and Bayless.
West was a great rebounder his rookie year.
