And I know this board has had its back and forth of which of the three movies--Argo, Zero Dark Thirty and Django Unchained--were the best of the recent big releases.

I thought Argo was a really well done movie. I liked how it really felt like the characters were in that time period. The story was good, the tension was okay.

But, I have to admit, I thought Argo was probably the third best out of the three I mentioned. That doesn't mean it's not good, it's still great.

I would probably go Django Unchained, Zero Dark Thirty and then Argo.

Thoughts? Dead horse beat to shite already? For your time, here's a picture of a blue duck.

I thought it was good, even if a little long. I certainly didn't think it was "best movie of last year" good though.

To include your other two movies, ZDT was good but severely overrated on this board IMO. Django was just "pretty good" like someone said last week. Disappointing Tarantino effort IMO.

I enjoyed all three movies though.

ZDT's story had to be told. And it was such a pivotal part of recent US political and military history that it was just important. And the movie carried that weight around...there was pressure to not frick it up. And I think it was outstanding. Overrated? I don't know, not to me. But then again I love movies like that.

Django wasn't Tarantino's best, but it was really entertaining.

Argo's story was intriguing. And the peripheral characters, especially Allen Arkin's and John Goodman's, were nice add ons.

Django was good but overrated. I think some people feel obligated to love it bc of either the topic or QT.

I agree. I really liked Argo, but it wasn't in my top 4 movies of the year.

Thanks for your review. Here is a Blue Duck for you as well.

I do too, but I had just heard SO many things about how awesome and intense and (insert super awesome adjective here) it was. So in a way, it was gonna be tough for ZDT to live up to the hype anyway. And yeah, you're one of the ones who took part in that overhyping...I know how much you loved it. And don't get me wrong, it was very good. Likely the best of the three we're talking about.

I agree with all that. Like I said, I enjoyed all three movies. But DU was disappointing for me. Argo's characters were really good.

This perfectly sums up my feelings on Argo:

I would've honestly enjoyed Argo's ending more had they not done the "bad guys chasing them on the runway...will they/won't they take off??!?!" thing. Had the climax been them at customs getting questioned and old dude coming through with the movie plot, it would've been a better ending IMO.

Guilty as charged...but, I guess it's perfectly normal for people to get excited for stuff they like. Point taken, bro.

it's just hard for me to take Aflec seriously the way he knights for Obama so hard, i guess b/c he's famous and makes money he's an authority on politics now.

Argo is third out of those 3 for me as well. I too already knew the story. I enjoyed the dialogue in DU a lot as I usually do with QT's films. ZDT was well done but after a while I just wanted them to get to the scene we were all waiting for.

ZD30 > Argo > Django for me. All very solid movies though.
