I know this has to be a rookie question of some sort but I have some boxes of ammo that are old (like 10+ years) . Does ammunition expire in any way?

Nope. As long as it was stored in a dry place, people shoot ammo that is 50+ years old and it works fine

Depends on how you store them.

As long as it was taken care of for those 10+ years it should be fine.

Awesome, I was wondering the same thing. I found about 2k rounds of .22lr yesterday in my dads shop, and it has to be somewhere around 10 years old.

.22 doesn't age well. Could explode. Handle gently. I'm a licensed .22lr detonation expert. Let me know where the volatile packages are located and I will pick up. Please leave a $100 disposal fee.

it will loose its punch a little if it is in humidity, so some of it wont cycle an auto. YOu can still shoot it in a bolt gun though.

If you keep it in an ammo can with a gasket on the top and a little dry rice (and I mean rice, not ice, im not a chinaman), it will last for ever, just as good as it was when it was rolled.

Yeah I am down to about 100 rounds of .22wmr, which I used to shoot more than anything. Pa in law just got his hands on a Kel Tec PMR30 handgun and is also in a bind for the magnums.

They were in sealed surplus army ammo cans and have been in doors as well in the bottom of a footlocker

Awesome. I actually managed to get XM855 green tip for $10 a box this week. Had to call a guy in Birmingham to find it

when we were shooting high power rifle, we practiced and competed with 30-06 ball from WWII.
still may have a bandoleer or 2 laying around.
