I'm moving to New Orleans this weekend. After a long diaspora in Baton Rouge, I am leaving my country homestead for the bright city lights of the City That Care Forgot. Where (other than Liuzza's and Parkway) can I go for the best tasting food for my money? I'll be living a few blocks from Napoleon at Fountainbleu.

Also, F&DB GTG?

Wouldn't even know where to start. How about letting us know what some of your favorite foods are so we can point you in the right direction?

Adams St Grocery. Giant arse poboy, full-sized is still like $6 and I bet 90% of the people that respond have never heard of it. REAL "cheap nola eats." Plus you can go to Snake N Jakes which is like 2 blocks away and get cheap nola drinks. I think they close at like 5 on the weekends.

I like EVERYTHING!

And I will try just about anything if I can afford it and if it is relatively convenient for me to get to. I've spent a lot of time in New Orleans growing up, but I've never lived there before.

Also, anywhere that tastes nearly as good as 5 Happiness that's cheaper?

Tuesdays is 2 dollar taco night and 2 dollar Mexican beer night at Pal's :)

Not NOLA food but not a bad bar to step in for some cheap grub. They have free food on some other nights. Usually something simple like Jambalaya.

Little Chinatown in Kenner. It's cheaper and better. And I'll cut the throat of any dumb arse on here that tells you different. Probably the best Chinese in the metro area.

Thinking of Chinese, do any of you guys remember the House of Lee? I was a small boy when it closed, but I remember thinking it was great.

Sorry for the thread hijack.

If my brother still lived there, I'd probably hit that up regularly, but he just moved back to St. Amant.

There's some ghetto shite on Claiborne, Felipe's (not ghetto) is right by you, so is the asian place on Earhart. Naked Pizza is right there by Robert's also. There's shite everywhere to be honest.

OK, now what about BBQ? Is it worth the danger to hit up Vaughan's on a Tuesday to hear Kermit Ruffins play and eat his BBQ?

Also, Lebanese joints (for when I'm missing my Lebanese gf)?

Favorite places that serve a hot muffaletta?

Boucherie is the best bang for your buck in town, and not far from you.

Also, Felipe's and Naked Pizza are right nearby. I also highly recommend Avery's po boys on Tulane ave.

Yeah, you should go at least once. I wouldn't go strictly for the bbq, but the experience is great. That area is getting the gentrification bug fast, there's a bunch of cheap places to eat in the bywater/marigny. Just park relatively close (like don't park on the other side of St Claude's) and its fine. I've been there several times.

Mona's in mid city and on Magazine. Cafe Lebanon (byob) on Carrolton. Lebanon is better, neither are going to blow your mind but they do the job for me IMHO.

a hot muffaletta in the French Quarter? Isn't that sacrilege against Central Grocery?

Central Grocery is a small, old-fashioned Italian-American grocery store with a sandwich counter located at 923 Decatur Street, in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana.
