@ESPNStatsInfo: Durant has a 31.5 PER since Westbrook’s injury, a 9.7 pct increase from his PER with Westbrook this season (regular season and playoffs)

So did KD just become that much better of a player now that Westbrook is out? No. He obviously is just asked to do more now. I see PER thrown around on this board as the end all be all of how to rate a basketball player. It has its flaws just like anything else.

Of course every stats has its limitations but this is not proof of that.

Legit sample size to draw such a conclusion.

Yeah, I usually don't get into all that. I just judge on what my eyes tell me.

85 games compared to 6 games maybe?

But yes it has its flaws. Your stupid example is not one.

You'd have made a decent GM in the 80s.

I use video game ratings to gauge the value of players.

PERs problem is it punishes guys that play a lot of minutes

WAIT you're telling me that Brook Lopez isn't the 5th best player in the NBA?!?!? And Andre Blatche isn't the 14th best player in the NBA?!?!?!? My mind is blown

A 9.7% Increase. That's marginal over such a small sample size of games.

Bad example. Of course his PER will go up because he has to do more, thereby resulting in a statistical increase. PER doesn't seek to provide a number that quantitatively ranks players. Its about combining multiple statistics into one value to get a rough feel for what they contribute.

By the OPs logic all stats are flawed because they can fluctuate because of lineup changes or injuries.
